Hello From County Durham...

Hello all,

I guess an introduction is in order.  I live up in County Durham, prior to that I was in East Herts / Essex and then West Berkshire for around twenty years in total.  I was lucky enough to buy my VX from a couple of close friends so it's in the family.  It's a mandarin orange NA (and was spotted at Courtenay Sport a few years ago when it was there to get a radiator replaced and in Theale at a business park near the train station).

 

Somehow 'while the front clam-shell was off' at Courtenay's it seemed a good idea to get a chargecooler rad fitted ... and the quest to supercharge it began.  That's kind of why I'm here I guess, I couldn't PM as a guest.  I've made no more progress yet but I'll get there and if I don't it doesn't matter TBH.

 

Otherwise it's out whenever I can get to a track day, when I'm on the trek back down to Theale or out for a drive in the North Yorks Moors.

 

Before the VX I had assorted flavours of MR2, a couple of Mk3's, a Turbo'd Mk2 and MK1 NA and SC'd (the SC'd engine, the 4AGZE I used for a Raw Striker I built, the NA version of which was an option for the kit).  There was an RX-7 FD3S in the mix too which I loved but I sold it to buy the Striker kit.  They all saw the track as often as possible.

I live in Hartlepool so pretty local to you.

Not many vx'ers around this area that I know of ( a couple over Redcar way) most are further south in N Yorkshire.

There is N Yorkshire WhatsApp group which i'm a part of who are a great bunch...runs out, trackdays and help /knowledge to keep them on the road!

 

Kit cars, Mr2's, mx5's etc. are all part of my history as well.

Thanks for the welcome and hellos, I'll keep my eyes open when I can get back out again.  On a summers evening when its been a bad day I'll usually escape off either toward the Yorkshire Dales or the Cleveland Hills and North Yorks Moors, I've exchanged waves a couple of times on the A171 between Whitby and Guisborough and the Stokesley to Helmsley road with VXes and Elises, one Summer there were three together (and a fourth gorgeous curved two seater, not sure what it was though), beautifully turned out cars with smiling occupants, perfect.

 

I'm surprised by how much it's under my skin, from the first day I saw it (its previous owners are close friends) through the day I got to drive it home and on to today when I've no skin on my knuckles and am waiting for a replacement battery, even with all its naily-nailyness and carnivorous chassis-with-special-sticky-out-sharp-bits it still makes me smile and I wouldn't want to be without it.

I'm sorry it's taken me a while to reply. I moved from East Herts / Essex living in Bishops Stortford, Stevenage & Great Dunmow but also for a while on my narrowboat in Leicestershire (I've since sold her   ).

I'm sorry for the late reply again, please don't think I'm ignoring anyone, I'm usually around much more than this but with work and some family things I've been out of contact for longer than I'd like, this is a year I'll be happy to forget. VX is still in the garage SORN'd, with things as they've been it didn't make sense to tax it. I'll be up for a drive / meet-up when it's on the road (and MoT'd...). For a drive I'll have to say I'm a boring-old-fart on the public roads, less so on the track but I can't get points on the track (...again...). I'm also rounding up the parts to SC the VX, probably a winter job by the time I've caught up with the seemingly ever lengthening "they're difficult to get hold of these days" parts list.

...2020... I remember those I loved and lost but in all other ways...good riddance.  Hopefully, for everyone, 2021 will bring brighter more positive times.
 

VX is still SORN'd but I've all the big bits I need.  I'd love to do the conversion myself but I'm just not sure I've the technical know-how and competency or the space in a garage so small I can only walk around one side of the car.

Once lockdown and other restrictions are lifted it'll be out on the road again, hopefully on a few track days, ideally SC'd.  It'd be great to catch up later in the year

Hi, no, well, not yet...  I still have WhatsApp but hardly ever use it these days, I'm probably more a Newbie on that than I am here...and this past year I've hardly been on here that much.  I'll have a dig around and see what I can find out, thanks.

I'm over in Hartlepool...we can have a meet up sometime and have a chat about everything VX if you want.

As Neil mentioned the N.Yorks whatsapp group is a great wealth of knowledge, very friendly set of lads and lasses and we have regular days out exploring interesting b roads around the North..
