Yes it happened to mine!

See all details >HERE<

Your either going to have to buy and fit:-

ECU
THROTTLE SENSOR
WIRING/CONNECTIONS

I was lucky - I spent nothing! Look in the above link for my fix!

BTW mine was really bad!

Chris that's a very good informative post. thumbsup Just a couple of questions. 1. Where is the connector? Is it in the footwell above the accel pedal (guess)? 2. How do you reset the ECU? I don't have a problem....yet! :D But you can't have too much info. ;) chinky chinky

Thanks mate thumbsup

1. Where is the connector? Is it in the footwell above the accel pedal (guess)?

Yes, its above the accelerator pedal. You will see a red plastic bit.

Pull the red plastic clip out [this will unlock the sensor connection]

Then pull the connection off the sensor.

Get some cotton wool buds and dip them in something that will clean up the copper connections. Make sure that the connections are all straight on the male end. Make sure all the female connections are pushed in tight ;) [I used a Stanley blade to push them together a bit]

Push the connections together nice and tight - push the red clip in tight.

Then:

2. How do you reset the ECU?

Open your fuse box, in front services compartment [under bonnet lid] passengers side.

Pull out fuse 8 - and leave for about 20 mins. Replace and test thumbsup

The chances are that the connections are a bit loose @ the accelerator sensor end. Taking it to a dealer will mean that they will automatically order either an ECU or Accelerator Sensor costing you some £££ if your out of warranty - when all you need is to re-establish the connections.

If the above doesnt work:-

There is another connection bus that you may want to take apart - clean - and sort out the connections. This is located in the passengers side rear clam, not far from where the side air vent is.

You will need to take your wheel off and pull out the arch liner.

I didnt have to do this as the accelerator sensor connections were at fault.

Good luck and post up here your findings.

BTW - since I found out how much an ECU costs [around £900] I fitted the BadAss engine cover to protect it from water ingress - the main cause of ECU failure.

See some usefull how to's >HERE<

EDIT: - Ive also added this to the Useful Thread Sticky as it seems this is a widespread issue. thumbsup

Add me to the list too. Smack in the middle of my vacation in Greece :( Car is 2001 NA, about ~10k km on the clock. Rebooting the car worked every time and the problem didnt seem to manifest after 140km/h Opel dealership in Athens confirmed that the problem is related to the throttle potentiometer, but couldnt find a spare :( Does anyone know if the potentiometer is a common to other Opels/Vauxhals, or it is a specific to the VX200 part? Thanx

The dealer will tell you its the ECU, Pento, etc so that you can cough up some serious money. Reestablish all contacts throughout the link [footwell, pass side rear wheel arch, throttle body].

I have just fixed this issue on my car - cleaned all the contacts on all three plugs: Pedal, archway one and throttlebody. Good as new!
