I you have a suitably banked bit of garden or the scope to make one you could construct a sort of drive on 'pier' to allow even better access to the underside.

not really, this all came around as i have just done the clutch on the mx5 but outside the garage and i needed some heafty ramps, as i also work on the vx a pit would be perfect but i think the best option is to build some new ramps or buy hydraulic Adjustable ramps on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lifting-Car-Device-Ramp-Jack-2t-2-Heights-Hydraulic-Adjustable-Vans-Professional-/330981203564

the other problem is if i start spending to much on my own projects the wifes going to be on at me over the house projects :/
