I find hot water and a sponge work really well. Leave the sponge on each patch for a 10 secs and it should come off easily. The water has got to be really hot though.

Heat gun is definately required. Been devinyling a whole car.

Heat gun and tar and glue remover, used to take sign writing off vans when I was younger.
