no set size, as long as its readable. I tend to do them 2-3mm

Can you go smaller? ;) Readable with a magnifying glass
Or can it be 'opaque'/etched into the plate?

I have seen plates before that are etched into the actual acrylic but not something I do chinky chinky

I make aluminium pressed plates, with the legal british (charles wright) font. I provide small clear stickers with black text on the bottom with my manufacturers details and BS standard, so technically they are legal chinky chinky
The black/silver metal were upto 1973 and then white/yellow thereafter with the old charles wright font which was in use until 2001 when the GB Euro badge was brought out

Hi Eliz. Thanks for the info. So are the yellow and white aluminium pressed plates legal on post 2001 cars? Also is there any chance of making the front plate the minimum legal size(aluminium style plate)? i.e. only 11mm from the edge of the plate to the edge of the lettering? I don't want loads of space either side of my number plate if possible.

metal plates have a black embossed edge all the way around so I could not alter them sorry. You could possibly try a DIY but they could end up looking quite a bit of a mess :tumble:

I think the main concern on the legality of plates is legal size, font, reflectivity, spacing and manufacturers details being on.

I read the info about pressed number plates on the wall of my local MOT station

but here is a thread I found by googling - mot, pressed number plates, seems a bit of a 'grey area' here

companies such as dubmeister can offer pressed plates with legal branding if you supply your logbook etc :) also shorter plates if appropriate for the reg (ie not just cut down - less charecters)

Bit off topic and prolly covered before but I went past a 458 italia today and he'd taken his front plate off and just had it on the dash (proper plate not a dealer red one and it had a proper rear plate)...

Likely consequences if I do this? If a cop pulls me over is it just a telling off and fine? Or points?

Cheers experts

Just a fine of £60 the same for being caught with a small number plate ;) I think you also get a producer to say that you have sorted it out.
