Just gone for a little pub run to Eynsford with my bro in-law. Had a great little run down there in the 2 cars. On the way back home i was driving behind his TVR and it flicked a stone up... next thing i heard was an almighty smash, it scared the sh*t out of me!!
I checked the windscreen and thought i'd got away with it... then i looked in the rear view mirror... fecking hell!!! I cant really see out of the rear window now as its totally smashed, luckily it hasn't actually fallen to pieces yet.

Any idea on how much this is going to cost me to get repaired, and will someone like autoglass come to my home to repair it? Im worried that if i drive it, it will just fall to pieces and i'll have to remove the seats to remove all the little pieces of glass Posted Image

Please don't tell me its a clam off job as i've just spent a fortune getting the rear clam repaired which included taking it off!!!

Oh and ive got a service and mot next month so hopefully this wont cost too much Posted Image

Clam off, roll bar cover off and cut out and rebond the screen, I'm afraid. Can't imagine Autoglass will want to tackle it anywhere other than a depot. P.S. I'm not sure I'd drive it incase it does break and shower then newly painted clam in glass. :o

Do autoglass do jobs like this? Not sure id trust them, could you not take the car to a specialised garage get them to strip it then get autoglass to replace? Would any insurance company agree to covering the full cost?

I was thinking that although is it Perspex you should never use on a car.
Use poly...carb.... whatever it's called.

Regular enough that Elise-Shop and Elise Parts sell these replacements and this for protecting the original screen.

And no, I don't know if it will fit the VX.

I'm definitely not driving it like it, I've taped a shower curtain over the rear of the car to stop frost from getting to the glass Posted Image

Im gutted that the clam has to come off, will someone like back on track do it? Its going to them for a service and mot soon anyway. Just got to figure out how to get it to them if they can replace it Posted Image

I'm sure BoT would happily take the clam off and get their local glass man to pop over and bond a new one in place (if they couldn't do it themselves). Your biggest problem will be trying to convince your insurer to let you take it somewhere other than their preferred company.

Right, those of you on the chase the other year will remember it happening to me. You need to let you insuramce approved repairer have the chance to say they cant do it. Which they will. Your insurance will then let you choose somewhere. So phone BOT, book it in and get them to fit the light poly carb one and just put on the bill'replacement screen' Then pay you normal windscreen excess to the insurance.
