I have just got my first VX this weekend, but failed to notice that one of the front fogs doesn't work (rookie mistake). Does anyone know how to check and replace the bulb as the hand book doesn't mention it? Thanks. Matthew

Matthew - Send vx220Nelly (Neil) a message. He's just changed (or is in the process of changing) a fog light and should be able to give you some pointers.

And if you need a hand doing it, just let me know. chinky chinky

Ken

Update following contact with Neil for any hints / tips: 1) Remove headlamp from side the fog is out. Headlamp is held in place by a 13mm nut onto a screw moulded into the headlamp housing. There's also a bracket that holds the headlamp in position against the clam. Be careful as you pull the headlamp forward and disconnect the wiring plug from the headlamp. You really don't want to drop and break the headlamp as they're about £900 each (inc VAT) to replace! Yes you read that figure correctly!! 2) Reach down and disconnect wiring plug from foglamp cap. 3) Twist lamp cap anticlockwise, removing cap. 4) Disconnect bulb wire 5) Unclip bulb and remove 6) Fit new bulb and reverse procedure above. There is another way in to the foglamp but that involves removing the front wheel and the wheelarch liner. This is more involved and you'll also need a low entry jack. Hope this helps. I've had the headlamps out several times so happy to give you a hand.

Thanks for the tip. The offside is working, it's just the near side that's out. Matthew

Appreciate everyones concern about my whereabouts. I went to open the bonnet yesterday and (not for the first time) the release handle came off in my hand! :excl: Was under a bit a pressure not to spend too much time in the garage so only got round to re-connecting the handle this morning. Had a good look at the light fixing and the nut is positioned in a way that I can't easily get any of my spanners on it without first breaking my wrist in two places. Ended up having to make do with just cleaning up and replacing the rear number plate lamps instead as these were both blown as well. One could argue that the fogs are surplus to requirements other than for those moody photos any way, but I will most probably take Ken up on his offer of assistance in the near future. Spent the rest of the day driving it with fixed grin. I have honestly never experienced so many people willing to move over to let me past. What a blast. :D Matthew

Ken Thanks again for giving up your Sunday afternoon to get my headlamp and fog lamp out. It is a shame that someone got there before us and bodged the repair to the fog lamp turning a bulb replacement in to something a little more complicated. Lets see what the garage I bought it from has to say...... Matthew

All I can tell you is that both the outer ring you are supposed to twist and the housing the bulb sits are in my hand. Various bits of plastic have been sheered off and there is a big dollop of glue visible on the back of the the fog lamp lens which is still attached to the car. I would recommend that you don't apply too much pressure when twisting the back of the lamp or you'll end up in my predicament. Good Luck.

The light unit itself is the same as fitted to the Vectra GSI and the Mondeo ST24 so you should be able to pick one up from fleaBay, if it bothers you that much.
