I have just got in from changing my front fog lamp bulbs today. I changed them both even though one was out. I did it with just removing the headlights. Before fitting the headlight back I started up the VX and turned on all the lights including the front fog lights. After about a minute of them being on I could smell a burning so I turned everything off quick! At this point it started to rain hard so I have disconnected the fog lights and taped up the headlight holes so the rain doesn’t get in and will start again tomorrow. It’s left me scratching my head to why this has happened. I checked all watts of the lamp etc and they are correct. Could it be because the headlights were not plugged in and they share power meaning too much power was getting to the fog lamps as normally you can only turn the fog lamps on if the headlights are on first?

Any help would be great.

I took it back last weekend and they agree they need to change the fog lamp. I was supposed to ring them during the week to see how they got on finding a new one, but didn't get a chance. Reading Dan's post this evening I am not sure I want them to work now after all.

If the bulb isn't seated EXACTLY correctly, then it touches the platic housing and melts it - absolutely sh1te design! Happened to me - and I was left with two parts - one rattling around in the bumper - grrrrr!

VX is going back to the garage to have new fog light fitted tomorrow. Fingers crossed it works. Can't help thinking that I shouldn't have started down this road and maybe should have just left it as me and Wolfstone saw it all those months ago! Will update tomorrow.

Sorry. Watching Le Mans from the comfort of my own front room. Think I'm going to call it a day/night now. News is that I now have two working front fog lights. I wasn't there when he did it (off shopping with the good lady wife), but have been assured that he managed to fit the new light assembly without taking the clam off - contrary to popular belief. The garage do sell and refurbish classics (and Lotus) so maybe they know something or have some special tool we don't know about. Now all I need are some foggy days to get the benefit. At least I can now take some moody photos of the VX with all my lights on. Thanks again for your help. Matthew

Good result. thumbsup

Sadly your misguided if you think the front fogs will provide any penetration into fog. A birthday candle would be more effetive.

What bulbs do the fogs use? mine is out as well!

H1, same as the dipped headlights

WRONG!!

H3 is the right bulb!! (For mine at least).

Halfords manual even listed H1, yet the bulbs that came out are H3.

Hah!

When I refitted my headlights I found H1 bulbs didn't fit and was wondering where I got the information from - turns out I said it :s

You're correct, H3 for me too

Once you've got them working DON'T use them unless you are sure they won't melt into two pieces....and has been said before, they are next to useless in actual fog!

I managed to exchange my right side fog lamp bulb today. The guide was useful, thanks for that. However the clip that holds the bulb in place fell out from the bracket, so I had to remove the panel that hold the foglamp in position. Once removed one can still not take it out, but reassembling the clip and the bulb was way easier.

So my advice for anyone stuck with reassembling the bulb: don´t be afraid to remove the panel that is held by 3 hexa screws (one on top, two on bottom)
