Hi guys it sounds like the bearing in one of the pulleys on my VXT has gone. I'm not all that familiar with the engine and was trying to figure out which one it was that is gone by spraying wd40 on them to see when it quietened. Seems like it was either a small tensioner or pulley (bunched together quite tight) further towards the front of the car than the crank pulley or alternator. Is there a particular tensioner or pulley that is prone to letting go? Again, sorry for stupid question I'm not familiar with the Z20let as yet!

you can get an updated pully system which stops the screaching thumbsup it used to be done under warrenty.

Thanks, is this the MMG underdrive system or is there another as well?

The MMG is an alternative solution that ditches all the tensioners and idler pulleys. I think the other reply refers to the updates made by Vauxhall to the standard arrangements

I went for the MMG pulley as mine started making a horrible sound after a spirited drive. It's really amazing how many parts you literally throw away and now acess to the turbo etc is much easier. Get it done :)

Does anyone know what the big black pulley furthest back is called as I am 90% sure it is the culprit. Don't really have £150 kicking around at the minute so may just replace it!

Someone on here definitely will, I imagine it's probably just an idler wheel thatreplaces the power steering pump that the astra would use. You ne'er know it may be cheaper to buy the u derdrive kit as vaux prices can be quite high

or just eliminate that and go direct with a smaller belt , but check clearance to oil unions

Nope, the 2.2 stuff isn't shown on the diagram above as I deleted it.

Thanks for all the help guys i love this place. It is no4 on that diagram, the spoked wheel, however from memory it looked bigger than the middle pulley (tensioner) I had read about just slinging the short belt on, but don't you have to change the alternator bracket? I couldn't find a definitive thread on how to do it and dont exactly want belt on oil union action? I would have thought if it was that easy, the underdriven pulley kit would be somewhat unecessary?

I have short belt mod since 2008 and its still on the same belt, no adjustment made to alternator. Plenty of clearance with a underdrive pulley fitted.

Yeh that is the best option, but sadly £150 for the underdriven kit is not an option until the end of the month at the earliest! Apparently CMS do the pulley for £100 but then you need to sort out your own alternator mod however you don't seem to have needed that? Will price Autovaux for the back pulley vs CMS underdriven crank pulley and see what we get. Obviously preferential to get rid of all the crap and shorten then belt from 200m to 30cm lol

Sorry to ask such a silly question (I have the MMG underdrive pulley kit fitted to mine), but how have you tensioned the alternator belt if you haven't fitted a bracket?

Bump. So does the CMS pulley system have everything I need or is the MMG much superior?

Basically the problem is due to belt allignment. In the Astra etc they have an aircon pump which is replaced on the VXT with an idler wheel, part 4 on the pic (picture above is decieving, it is about 10 to 15cm) When you fit a new belt it is nice an tight for a bit and the noise stops but because of the alightment of bracket 6 in that pic above the noise soon starts again. Vauxhall replaced part 6 with a very slightly longer bracket to sort this out. Not a recall though so you will have to pay for it http://www.vx220.org...showtopic=49704

Thanks steve that's very helpful. Knowing vauxhall prices though a new idler and bracket could cost the same as an underdriven kit!

I ended up buying the underdrive pulley and a short belt but only really to save weight.
