I think stick on's are illegal because the plate has to be at 90 degrees to the road (or something), plus they look crap. 3/4 are illegal because they are too small. Extra strong velcro is about 7 quid in Halfrauds. You can stick the plate on a little higher, and of course pull it off / stick it on until you get it right. A 3/4 does look good, but imo, not worth the hassle or risk. Chris

Hi Denzle,

Mine had a stick on plate when I purchased it (can't add a pic at the moment, but there's one in my gallery bit), only recently removed it and replaced with a cut down 3/4.

+ve > it's not going to get knocked off
+ve > possibly helps avoid the ca$h collectors with speed guns as it won't reflect properly?
+ve > stops a few stone chips (or hides cracks on mine...arrrhhhhg!)

-ve > looks a bit gash
-ve > not legal (although the guy I bought from had MOT's with it no problem)
-ve > hard to get them looking reasonable as you now have to assemble them yourself (illegal to sell completed/ready printed).

Little front plate velcro'd is the way to go, with full size stored in the boot for MOT/Officer time
Crafty plates (ElizP987 on the forum) will sort you out

I had a stick on plate and whilst I did not have to MOT it during the time it was on, I had no issues with the police. BTW, thanks for the votes of how it looked, why didn't you all say so?

I have a stickon plate across bonnet and whilst I agree it doesn't look as pretty as without, and may actuall not be legal, I have never been challanged by police in 3 years as I am sure when they see it as FULL size they don't bother me.....anyway the car is more for the track than looking pretty and with so many speed bumps on my way to work I would be forever knocking a velcro plate off ... so works for me and those in the know can see the car is geared for performance rather than looks [altho in one sense it excudes a stronger subliminal image and I am never short of admirers of the car !] ...

Risk is a personal think chris but i've had a 3/4 plate for the 6 years and 66k i've had the car, been on many of the same roads as you and never been tugged for it.

My plate is on the dash as well, had it knocked off once or twice and I think it looks nicer without.

Just had my MOT and service today, for the first time in 4 years I had a call from the garage to say they couldn't pass it with the 3/4 plate, apparently the rules are now much tougher so they had to have the full size plate. I keep it in the car so it wasn't an issue ;) Useful info if you don't have a full size plate thumbsup Nick

What's the pathological aversion to full size and stuck on where it's supposed to be? Do you all off road? Mine's never come off...

Hmm I've just had a thought....... Has anyone ever had their number plate recess smoothed over, revove the 'V' and relocate the numberplate in the mesh? I can't imagine it takes up much more room for air flow to the rad than the badge and 'V'. Might look pretty cool too. Just a thought. :gayfight:

As I said above --mine got broken on a hump, which was in a park and ride car park.

The type of hump that has a a longish lead in before the top of the hump itself, so the number plate hits the hump before the wheels start to rise up the slope.----if you see what I mean .
