Found these instructions, but is there anything else I need to know? or could anybody offer any tips on how to make it easier? ("take it to the professionals" doesn't count)

Cheers
Ali

It is an easy job (apart from undoing the bolts) a quick step through is like this:

1) jack up
2) wheel off
3) undo wheel hub nut (castle nut)
4) caliper off
5) disc off
6) undo the three hub bolts
7) hub off
8) replace in reverse order

:yeahthat:

I managed to get both front hubs off without major issues but I did have to jack the car up really high and use a 2 foot breaker bar with an impact socket. Don't use a cheap socket as misshaping the bolt heads even slightly will see them need cutting off with an angle grinder thumbsdown

An hour per hub tops for a pro to do it plus they will have air impact wrenches which makes things massively easier. The difficulty will depend on the level of corrosion there. My fronts came off OK but I couldn't move one of the rear bolts at all.

OK, thanks Steve.

I'll have to try it myself, but if it looks like it's going to be a bugger i'll take it to a garage.

Cheers

I agree only use 6 sided sockets There is a bodge you can do though :ninja: unless you want to make it all proper thumbsup

I'm sick of my car being one big bodge. If you mean solder the wires back onto the hub, i did that last time and it lasted 10 minutes. I've bought the new hub now and all the stuff for my ABS cut off switch, so will just change it.

All my hubs came off dead easy. Seems I was lucky, hope you are too. Good luck.

I've got more chance of changing the hub myself than doing any sort of wiring wizardry!

Are you doing the rears? Best to use a hub puller to get it off the spline of the driveshaft.. I got one from Halfords (was only 4 bolt hub style but managed to make it work).. Was a bitch of a job getting those 3 hub bolts off. There was some effin and jeffin.....

If you aren't sorted when I get back from holiday, I'd be happy to take a look at soldering the wires.

Thanks Bob, but it's been done before and it doesn't hold because they broke too close to the hub. Have bought the replacement parts so will give it a crack :)

I had a go on my driveway, could not remove the three bolts so ended up splitting it off with the whole hub carrier casting thingy whatever still attached ie. at the hub carrier bolts/ball joint and took the whole assembly to a place with an air impact wrench. The discs were quite badly rusted on too :( Good luck.

Do you need to use new hub nuts (to connect to the driveshaft) when you put it back together?

Ali, you don't need a puller on the front (no driveshaft to push out), 14,500, all the ones I have bought have been supplied with a different replacement Torx headed nuts, I reused originals
