Hi At some point in the future im going to be looking to buy some suspension. Could some 1 point me in the right direction to which i`d be suited to? My main priority`s is to lower the car but i dont want rock hard suspention and dont want it to be to crashy if you no what i mean its not going to be used as a track car so just for a fast road use. My brother had some gaz golds fitted to his car but struggled getting by 1 winter without rust developing ? Ive heard KW coilovers are good and they dont rust as there made out off... think its stainless steel (sorry not good at these sort off things lol) but not sure if these are available for the vx220? So which suspention would i be suited to? would really hate it iff the car was to harsh and crashy and they started rusting quickly?? Thanks Aimy

Nitron Street Series are another option. Much much less crashy, still rides brilliantly, and able to lower the car considerably.

nickle GAZ £400 - will rust - cheapest after market - not recommended, but better than std knackered ones (just) GAZ gold £550 - wont rust - great VFM. Good road performance Nitron SS £700 - wont rust - slight lack of adjustability (only one spring rate) - good quality. Good road performance Nitron NRT £1200 - wont rust - great road performance Something like that, i'm sure someone will tell me i'm wrong somwhere

Yeh on the nitrons. They are ten times better than a set of old bilsteins.

My experience with Gaz Nickel is specify 350front 425rear springs. Any stiffer and the car feels like the car has no suspension at all. Probably ace on track. Not for me for road use. Best regards, Paul

Ive noticed people tend to fit gaz golds or nitrons Has any 1 fitted ohlins or KW coilovers? any thoughts? thanks

I to am in the same boat as you, wanting a lower look (was told by Lee, mine sits to high?) and also want better road and odd track day perfromance. Looking at the Market it seems the GAZ golds are the best for your buck. Maybe slightly better over all than the NSS for it's choice of spring rates. What I don't know is the best choice in springs, something I need to read up on but some more info from others on here will be good. Fast road rates for GAZ golds please!?

Best ignore Pauls comments then.

He states his opinion as fact time and time again. Ie very low spring rates with rock hard damping (oem) is preferable to higher spring rates and more compliant damping Is a better option.

Trust me. Stiffer springs and softer damping makes a Vx a much much more likeable car for road use

Paul states his opinion. As stated this is, "only my opinion". Factually I have never tried "rock hard damping". I tried the stiffer springs as were originally supplied with the dampers. With the stiffer springs, in order to for the car to have grip I had to run the dampers very soft. This was OK. In theory the only reason for the damper to be there is to stop the spring oscillating. However for road use, this meant the car was very close to bottoming out on bumpy roads and also made it very sensitive to throttle and brake inputs. Changing to 350front 425rear springs allowed me to dump the "boingy" set up and the car felt really nice. These spring rates are approx 50% stiffer than standard so it is not like I was turning to the car into a 2CV. Summary, my opinion (ONLY) 50% stiffer than std works great for road use. My personal opinion (MY PERSONAL OPINION) is to avoid going firmer than this for road use. I run my dampers as soft as practical to gain maximum grip. This is likely to be the point where more expensive dampers will show their merits. However I cannot give my OPINION on a set up I have not tried. Once again this is only my OPINION... Will be getting gaz pros for next mod but never bought coilovers on a car before, only springs. Do you choose what spring you use? like how stiff etc? i want it as low as you can get it without causing any problems as i wont be going on track but for it to still handle well

You're not going to get both a slammed look and great handling fella. Took my car in for a geo at Scared Stifff and they increased my ride height to improve the handling (Steve G gave me a masterclass in setup).

Re. the springs, I've got Gaz's and you can specify the springs you want. Tubbys have a bit more weight over the back so you may want a stiffer spring than the n/a boys and girls. I went for 425 front and 525 rear. May be an idea to discuss your needs with someone like Steve G at Scared Stifff then take the vx there for a setup. They will set up the car then let you take it for a drive and then make any adjustments you want
