I've been in touch with OZ for a few weeks regarding doing something similar to what John Thorne did 5 years ago in procuring a light weight wheel for the VX.

It might be that the Team Dynamics and ATS DTC wheels have now cornered a market and that it will never gather the interest required. It might also be that there is now suitable demand for a very lightweight wheel

The wheel in question is one of the lightest (if not the lightest)wheel that OZ do and its called: OZ alleggerita hlt 5f (bit of mouth full )

front wheel weight 6kg :o
and the rear 6.98kg (not 7 :P)

They would be in the standard (16/17)VXR size and offset.

I have the skills (and hopefully determination) to offer these to our european firends and in particular on the french site, and will do that to boost numbers.

Cost wise they would be around £680 including taxes and delivered in the UK in the titanium finish you see above. Other colour options (8 colours) are available at additional cost or around £150-200(which seems expensive)

I would be interested in your thoughts and please put your name down if you think you'd be interested (with no obligation of course)

It would be a pretty big gamble on my behalf, but probably worth it if it came off.

would want the rear wheel in a wider size, at least 8J maybe a 9J to fit wider rubber.

I think the best chance of this happening would be "standard" sizes, or the size that the majority want. Sure, the "standard" VXR 16/17 has been proven rather than going to wide wheels. Wider wheels would limit the desirability to higher powered cars to compensate for the increased grip/friction/drag etc. Not to mention the increased weight of wider wheels. I quite like the look of the them thumbsup I'd have a set.

Your other option would be to go with a 17 / 18 combo and pick up trade with a cross-pollination into the Europa S/SE market. I know PaulusH on here had said that his contact had said that the Europa SE wheels were the most optimal arrangement for the VX. Would have been what I would have wanted to go for given the option... And not having a TD wheel would have been an attractive option... Or a different VXT style wheel in a 16" or wider 17" front option.

16/17 is a tried and tested option, you're right though, the Europa market is worth involving.

As I said on the french forum, I'm already running some of those, as they already have a 5x110 option for the rears (8x17, ET40, with an added 5mm spacer), and 7x16 4x100 for fronts (ET30, 5mm spacer and elise hubs). They are fantastic and honestly extremely cheap considering the weight is similar to forged alternatives. the existing 8x17 ET40 size real weight is 7.4Kg which is almost 2Kg lighter than the similar TD1.2 real weight ;)

It's a lovely looking set of wheels and will make a nice alternative to the usual TD 1.2's. thumbsup The price is good too! However, Im now after wider wheels & rubber, especially on the rears. My car spins up the rears on hot sticky AO48's exiting virtually every slow to medium speed bends, wasting valuable forward thrust. Also, any additional grip through the bends would be nice, so I'd like a wider set of wheels :glare: I don't really want to go to slicks & carry two sets of wheels (as I'm lazy). Joe's 245 width rears & 215 fronts seems a better option for any big powered VX on track. All you up & coming Harrop boys will just melt your tyres!   ...I recently tried 235 tyres on my TD 1.2 rears, which was better at putting down the power :)

I had allegeritas on my cooper S. They were a nice looking wheel, but aren't the TDs not too dissimilar weightwise to that?
