As you know the car won't start. Usual clicking sound that is referred to in many a thread I've searched.

It's not the battery.
It could be the earth point.
It could be the starter motor.

Now I ordered a new yellow relay to rule that out as well, but it's now on a 1.5 week back log from elise parts.

I've tried shorting the relay with a piece of wire. This tried to turn over, but failed within less than a second. Since then just more clicking.

Does this rule out the relay?

If it does then I'll check earth points and if not I'll change the starter motor this weekend with a spare from Liz.
No point waiting a week and a half if I know it's not going to work and I could have fixed it this weekend.

Likewise don't want to change starter if it could still just be the relay...

Hark, my SC has been giving me jip the last couple of weeks to. I posted on here and was told to use WD40 on all the relays and loom conections. Touch wood and after a week it has solved all and car runs fine. The relays are easy to get to, header tank out for the loom conections but should be ok if you can do other small jobs. thumbsup

Header tank out mean draining coolant out or do it full?

FLD has kindly offered to post me a relay to try. Will try WD40 but the thing is flat as a pancake at the mo.

I just pushed it out the way so no coolant will be lost. Its the header tank bracket which needs to come out (two bolts) this will then give you the space to unclip the blue and black conections.

Exact same problem! Ordered a new relay from elise shop and I have a 1.5 week wait also!! :@ I'm pretty sure it's the relay that is the problem but only one way to find out... I dont need this right now as I have a road trip week Friday and dreading that it won't be here in time! Don't want to have to keep jump starting the car, can't really be good for it /:

If you're jumping starting your car then isn't it the battery or alternator?

Nah cus there isn't any warning lights and all electrics are fine, just the start button doesn't work, jump starting is the only way of starting the engine /:

Your lucky I didn't need it! FLD offered it to me as well when I was having a similar problem, which turn out just to the battery connections 'jumping' to chassis and shorting out.

Yeah, you can use a regular relay as its the guts of the yellow relay that are moisture sensitive. This carries the risk of pushing the button when the engine is running actually engaging the starter (the whole point of the yellow relay). I tried it, it works and I then fitted a new yellow relay. I know I'm retarded enough to make that mistake!!

If the yellow relay clicks when I push the start button, does that mean it's working? And FLD, would any relay do to test it? As in the possibility of using the ones next to it?

If the relay clicks it indicates its working. You'd have to get the right format relay so I'm not sure if the ones next to it would do. You'd have to look and see, dnt just plug it in!

So what does that yellow relay in the boot actually do? Does it have anything to do with the immobiliser?

Starter inhibit module - prevents the starter button working, once the engine is running.

Thought it was just for the starter motor, not to do with immobiliser.
