Should I ask a pair of gloves from mrs dw1 for my birthday? I quite like the idea of them, it's just you seldom see the pro instructors pop on a pair at track days. Are they a case of all the gear, no idea or something that help? If they are good, then is it gloves or gauntlets (which can look a bit special :gayfight:)

nah, good for karting, but not for vx tracking in my experience, no point in making the car feel different than it does usually. A good pair of boots on the other hand thumbsup

If you have a suede wheel then gloves with suede grips work well. Suede gloves on leather wheels are shite.

I tried on loads of gloves and I have decided on alpinestar ones, there are 3 fia types I found the middle to be most comfortable also the middle ones have Velcro to keep in the same place and felt tighter as the cheapest where uncomfortable and slid down my hands As the middle ones are tight you didn't lose too much in feel ( I'm a sparky and am forced to wear gloves at work so the tighter the better for wiring etc) The most expensive where the ones that are inside out as such! Didnt feel or look right nor did they have the velcro

I've got some really comfortable Sparco gloves but haven't put them on in probably 4 years. Just didn't seem to make any difference one way or another to grip or comfort for me.

Sparco profi gloves, Sparco nomex shirt, carbonX balaclava , have seen too many cars catch fire on trackdays not to wear all the kit.

If you are on a track day you need minimum of:
- Fireproof gloves
- Super-dooper racing driver booties
- Fire-proof race overalls
- Top-spec helmet
- At least 2 fire extinguishers
- Fire-proof balaclava
then you need to pootle around the track at 30mph on the right hand side with your indicator on letting everything past. rallly

I wear gloves some times on track days. reason 1; I find it reduces fatigue of the hands a little... (I am steering like a banshy on a track day however ) reason 2 ; In a heavy crash, which is a real posibilityy as I go on track to max everything, it may help protect my hands from flying glass etc.......

I get very bad dermatitis on my hands, so always have to wear gloves for driving. You definitely get used to them. On rare occasions when I haven't had gloves available, I haven't noticed any improvement/penalty from not wearing them (apart from my hands ulcerating and bleeding) but I also haven't noticed any driving/control advantage from wearing gloves.

That clip is epic, it's the commentary that makes it. It looks like the general consensus is that gloves don't add to better feel (and they are a bit ghey looking :D). Cheers for the input. Sizten - what kind of track days do you go to, the pyromaniacs society?

You guys aint trying hard enough!!! I get blisters on my the palm of my hands (around the thumb) if I don't wear gloves on a track day!! Plus if it does go wrong the gloves are flame proof. Also helps with grip imo but that is on a suede wheel, however I used gloves on my old leather wheel :) I don't wear a race suit on track days though as I'd feel a twonk which is silly really. Dave you could do with some race boots though after seeing those clod hopper daps you tracked in at Brands
