would it be safer if you warmed it first before removal ?

Tried that, tried pulling it off from every conceivable angle at different speeds and it still pulled the paint off in great swathes down to the primer. Before the second wrap I just flatted out the edges and polished the patches and primer to make it shinier so the vinyl stuck. I wouldnt wrap another vx if it had good paint, I would only do it again instead of a repaint.

Stuwy's prices sound spot on to me and tie in exactly with some of the prices I was quoted for a full respray after my vinyl mishap.

I was quoted £1400 for a full respray colour change BUT that price was dependant on me removing all the bodywork, grilles, etc AND reinstating it once the paint had been applied. I wrapped a door mirror (badly) so peeled off vinyl to do it again and it removed laquer. The only reason I chose to wrap mine was because the paint was shocking, I didn't want to spend out on a full respray and Steve pointed me in the direction of a cheap vinyl supplier. If I had good paintwork I definitely wouldn't wrap it.

It is unavoidable im afraid.

Most areas will be fine with heat removal but the doors, front clam and mirrors are all areas that suffer badly.

Most areas will be fine! Doors, front clam and mirrors is half the car!!

I looked into a wrap a little while ago but after reading everything on the forum decided against it. As said before if you have good paint work already I wouldn't wrap it.

On mine the entire rear clam, rollbar cover, sills, bonnet, boot, spoiler, inside painted trim, drivers side door and a 80% of the front clam were fine. I have removed two wraps from my car and have had it completely wrapped since Jan 2009. Like ChrisS1, my paint was gash and this was a cheap way to sort it. I've had three wraps over the years for less than £400 total* *Ignoring the labour time I put in (Easily 100 hours)

Certainly isn't a quick process is it!
If you don't include any of the prep work I did I reckon it took me the best part of 3 full weekends....and by the end of it I didn't want to see another bit of vinyl for a long while!

Chris / Steve - what area's did you find to be challenging? I only ask as I wrapped my door sills in the CF stuff and the vinyl was excellent but the shape at the front end was a right PITA to do, had to put some cuts in to get it to sit nicely.

The sills are quite straight forward TBH. Even with cheap pikey vinyl I didn't have any issues. Anything with large 3D shape changes is difficult. Front louvres were tough and I also don't like doing the rear bootlid as the VXT has raised grills which causes problems with the shape of the material. Lower part of the rear clam (bumper part) is a challenge.

Corners of rear clam was a tricky bit. Doing front clam in one piece made it quite tricky too.

Sorry shud of put door sill covers - bits with triangles on. I'm thinking of a colour change in a year or so depending on funds. Was going to go with paint but am getting tempted by wrapping. If it doesn't look gd I can take it off and doesnt matter too much if laquer etc comes off as I would of been respraying it anyway. So for the chance of costing just the vinyl and many hours of my time (which is incredibly cheap :P) it seems like it would be worth a try. Steve / Chris - did u take clams off or all in situ?
