Google '170 dpf problems'.
Appears to be more prolific on the VAG 170s than offerings from other manufacturers. Believe that 140s do not have DPF (or did not until very recently).
Otherwise the cars look ok outside but interior fit and finish looks to be where they save money over equivalent Golf / A3. I'd also check if they are still using a cheaper turbo than the equivalent engine in Golf/Audi.
I doubt DPF would be a problem witht he milages cliffe will be doing. However does that use the cam driven PD injectors? I was talking to a cabbie about VAG 1.9 vs 2.0 and he said there are problems with the cams not being hardened enough on the 2L and he'd just had to shell out 2k to get new ones fitted

Only on the older PD engines.
The CR engines don't suffer with injectors.
Common Rail engines were introduced in VAG cars in 2008.
I'm no mechanic but could've sworn I was told that 2.0TDi was common rail back in 2005 when I was trying to make a living at an Audi dealership
