Having fitted one today, the S1 elise does fit, you can get the from ebay for £40

But isn't the hole in the wrong place, too low, too far back?

It still clears the V.

I've got an Elise S1 stainless fitted. It is a bit far back but I haven't got a hole in the grille, I just carry a pair of cutters in the boot to use should it ever be necessary. Rear clam is off at the moment and the car is outside tarped up against the weather so I can't get the doors open to lift the bonnet to look at the tow eye length to see if it comes up short. Fezz might confirm it's long enough?

I bought a £40 stainless one off ebay, was listed for the VX but the actually tow eye was far to short, the guy had a longer one made and sent to me though.

I had a stainless steel tow fitted by Olly at Phoenix and he said it was an Elise parts one, but now the clam sits at a slight angle gaps at the top of the clam are wider than at the bottom as it doesnt quite clear the V ! removing the V would solve this.

Last week I bought the Elise Parts S1 towing mount since the clam is off and needs to be on next Saturday, no time to waste then. The S1 mount is about 3 cm lower then the VX mount so it is lined up with the V, will need to remove that one and cut a new opening in the grill.

Looking at getting mine all sorted before the national this year. When I took the front clam off over winter my tow mount is pretty heavily rusted so figure it'd be best to replace it.

So this thread doesn't do much to help with getting rid of confusion around this matter. As I see it the S1 is a straight fit fixing wise - does it line up ok with the front mesh and v?

The S2 is better due to having more fixing points to the crash structure but these holes will need to be drilled. It also has some strengthening brackets, parts 6+7 on the previous page.

Simsy hasn't been online for a few months so that option looks like it is out of the question. I'm tempted to just get a tow eye and hope the rust isn't so bad that it doesn't fit but I'll still want to sort this at some point in the future so would be good to get this cleared up ready for when I tackle it.

The S1 mount is a straight swap fixing wise, but the hole isn't aligned with the hole in the grill and V. The mounting hole is just above the V so you can keep that in place if you want to.

If anyone wants a pic, I've got my clam off at the moment with the towing eye removed

Yeah the hole is lower than the vx one but sits just above where the V joins at the bottom, im not at home so I cant take a pic of it but with mine its tight and the clam was slightly angled to fit, again im not too sure if it can be aligned better but I wouldnt trust a rusted one, is it not posible to fit a rear toe eye ?

If you look at the gap at the front of the door it get wider towards the top. Almost 10mm at the top where as at the bottom its about 4-5mm

I'll have to go check mine when I get a chance but the front tow mount sticks out in pretty much the same spot as yours Mark.

Only doing it for track day, I might get a rear tow as well if I end up doing more. I will eventually remove the vauxhall badge but keep the V so if it moves up thats not a problem but much lower than standard is.

Yeah its a good inch lower than the previous one and now has a chuffing great big hole in the mesh, I tried to bend some of the damaged mesh back into place and have now painted the mesh matt black to try and improve it. If I was to remove the V then I think the mesh would have to be replaced too but thats not gonna happen any time soon.

Right just measured mine. It is currently 3cm or just over an inch above the V. Dropping it an inch isn't an issue imo and would be better when I eventually remove the badge.

Think I might just go new for a new mount and be done with it.

Any idea on price on Dave's version?

Site only has 2 pics, 1 of which is confusing as the upper spreader plate looks to be on top of the crash box but is welded to the mount... Think I might just spank some money on the S1 version and look at making some spreader plates at a later date.

Ok this pic is better for seeing where the toe eye sits on my Vx and I have screwed in my toe ring and now found It doesn't quite screw in tightly as the ring now gets slightly blocked by the bloody V. As it sticks out much more at the bottom than the top, so has anybody towed there Vx with the toe ring loose or should it be in tight. Could this be an issue ?
