Can anyone confirm if all f23 gearboxes fit the vx220 turbo? ive been offered one from a 2003 vectra. cheers.

if its come off another turbo then mostly yes, you want a gearbox with ident code "AF" , not TR an F23 from a 2.2 won't fit

As above, the gearbox from a 2.2 NA wont fit straight on.

NA and Turbo gearboxes are virtually the same, the only external difference (although a major one) is that they use differenet, but interchangable bell-housing patterns, and internally, a different final drive ratio.

Some versions of the F23 fitted to the Vectra have a different outer casing, and therefore do not have the 3-bolt mounting point on the top of the gearbox, so be worth sticking to the correct alpha code (as advised), or posting pics up here for ID.

That won't fit straight on I'm afraid - it has the correct casing, but was fitted to the Z22SE engine (2.2) therefore has the wrong bell-housing pattern. Its also a shorter ratio gearbox, which would a performance upgrade, but not if you want to keep it standard.

Some of the Tubby owners will advise better than me, but personnally, the slightly shorter 3.95 ratio gearbox as fitted to the 2.2 Vx's sounds like a good compromise between performance but still reasonable economy, and may be worth doing when the gearbox is out anyway, and there seems to be slightly better availabilty / cost to the short ratio boxes.. I've never changed the bell-housing, but from what I've read, it pretty straight forward, just some bolts really, and then a quick clean of the mating surfaces and seal when reattaching. No need to actually remove any gears or selectors etc. I'll let someone more informed be more definitive on this however..

Its the right fitment, but wrong final drive ratio. You want one with a 3.63:1 ratio.

I think they are the same gearbox, just different Alpha codes (perhaps a production coding thing?). As per the attached link, both TR and AF are listed as Astra G Z20LET.

Thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it. So Im assuming even though the TR box is listed as fitting an astra turbo, the shaft difference means it wont fit in a vxt? cheers.
