Is anyone running rears this wide? couple of questions 1. is it fine RE: rubbing? 2. would it create massive understeer when run with 225/45/17 fronts? J

Do 225/45/17 fronts fit? I've heard 255 rears can cause rubbing issues if running lower than standard ride height, but may depend on a number of factors, including wheel offset, camber, spring rates etc.

I run 245 on ET20 offset with 110mm ride height and 3 Deg neg camber. Had rubbage inside and outside. Spaced wheel out 5mm and cut arches.

My rears are 9J ET30 - so was trying to work out whether to go with a 245/40 or a 255/40 :o

My rear wheels are 8J ET30, with 245/40/17. No rubbing issues at all, but thats standard ride height using Exige suspension.

Indeed - So i was going to move to a 255/40/17 rear as my rear rims are wider - just trying to work out if it will still be rub free and not cause horrible understeer if the fronts are only 225

...and cut arches.

How? What does this look like and what work is needed?

Well, I have no real experience of set up, and I guess tyre type / compound comes into it, but I run 205/45/16 fronts also, and can't say I've noticed much understeer, and thats with the Geo still set up for a lowered car with my previous suspension (before switching to Exige), so virtually no front negative camber.

I think i am the only one on here who can answer this question as I'm sure I am the only one to run these sizes. On the road 225F and 255R do not rub if spaced correctly. I currently run 225 Federal RS-R's on the front and 245 Yoko AD08's on the rear but I ran with a set of Potenza RE070 255's on the rear for a while without issues. The only reason I went for 245's is the clearance on 255's is very small and I thought the extra flex and cornering load of track use on the tyres could cause rubbing issues. It didn't catch in heavy road testing but I never got them on circuit TBH. ETA - I'm not sure why people think it will understeer more with wider fronts if anything it turns in sharper and grips harder. Also my 245's rears don't rub at all even on very heavy track use but although my car is low it's not uber low;

Id be surpised if 255 fit without rubbing. Ive had to get a different geo so that my 245 will fit without rubbing. Clams are slightly different so some may struggle more than others. Depends how the car is set up for the understeer issue. If your going to run 225 fronts though then you are going to have to modify the sill and the arch liner. My 215 fronts rub on full lock on the sill and are very close to rubbing the arch liner at the front.

Mine must be too low with too much camber as I rubbed inside and out with a 245.

Is it rubbing on the mud guard thing? I modified mine as it was the first thing to catch on compression testing.

with our cars being so light, the slight change makes a big difference... as wider you go, I would of thought your then in the area of needing to make changes to the damping setting etc. All the little tweaks add alot of feel to the car, road or track

don't forget bigger tyres = heavier = more rotational unsprung mass for the suspension to deal with

:rolleyes: Q1: Why? Q2: Why would you want 255 section tyres on the rear of a vx? Q3: Why would you want 255 section tyres with a profile fo 40 :o? it would increase the rolling radius bu over 3cm! Quike apart from looking completely daft too

They're all turbo boys JG. By default they think more/bigger/wider is always better and have never had any appreciation for delicacy on the handling front. ;)

I still think 195/50/16 with the A048 is the sweetest instinctive steering feel Anyway us turbo lot all have forearms like Popeye
