Synergy, the factory map that the VX220 Turbo has is well known to have a flat spot. I think a few hundred pounds spent on a stage 1 or 2 map (from MMG or Courtenay) will definitely help your problem a lot.

If you really want a snappy rev up though, you need to lighten the rotating assembly like MrSimba has said above, which is more work. Additionally, if you install lighter pistons and connecting rods this helps a lot too. I have done this sort of work on my engine and it is extremely rev happy and snappy in response now and would recommend it.

interesting web...let´s do some research.Thanks

Standard VXT has a flat torque line from like 2000rpm basically. Just don't go below 2000rpm when driving spiritedly?

It´s not only the torque, is the response...

I've got a standard turbo, and no real lag issue other than the 3500 rpm region mentioned above. If you are below this region, as per exiting a sharp bend you should be Ok. So is there another problem - is it just bends or uphill acceleration?

Is the lack of snap response uphill bending a 180º curve. Maybe 4.17 gears helps...
Is that "push and wait" response wich I try to avoid, a bit too lazy revving and the lack of inmediate feeling.

It's very very difficult to compare like for like across continents on a web forum. The Z20 has a small turbo for good response and I agree with all of those who say they do not experience lag. The power is virtually immediate and strong. I would have your car checked first.

Comments by the driver:(french)

Contrairement à certaines reprog allemandes, celle que j'ai lisse bien la courbe de couple (avec une valeur max plus faible) à tel point que sur piste l'effet turbo est presque imperceptible.

So yes, the lag can be reduced; for those who doesn´t notice it, just don´t worry XD

BTW my car is near new.

Zafira GSI DZ box is the one to go for and a straight swap. 3.95 Final drive. A complete exhaust is for sale at the moment in here for a bargain £500. Also someone reported getting a map and galetto off eBay for about £50 after his thorny map was discovered to be low on power. Wouldn't do it myself but a lot are out there.

Thanks for the tip
**Edit: Can (with this exhaust) have the CS2 Courtenay Sport Software Upgrade? (240-245 bhp). Is possible then to buy only the CS2 soft upgrade alone from Courtenay?

Cheers from the sunny Spain

Just out of interest is the zafira Gsi longer geared or is it just the final drive that is different? What are the pro's and cons?

A final drive that makes the gearing shorter = faster acceleration but increases rpm for a given speed in a given speed.. So in motorway cruising it might be a pain. 6 speed box conversion is but gives best of both worlds

The terrible turbo lag has two reasons: - stock throttle response is damped - stock recirculation valve is too small One way to cure all this: Go to VX Performance in Giessen (you mentioned it yourself) and get a Stage 1 or 2 setup AND the external Blow Off Valve. You will virtually have a new engine after this with nearly no lag anymore. I went the whole way from 2005 up to now, from stock 200HP to around 380 these days. Had every engine setup made by Uwe Regelin and am a very happy customer. Great guy, very trusty. Just give him a call, he speaks english fluently.

Interesting blog you got.

About Vx-performance or Courtenay.

1.-First of all, catch my attention the different way to achieve around 250 bhp between them.

Vx-performance (tuning stage 2) claim 252 hp with aluminum manufactured air intake system to charger-input inclusive an open airbox with cold-air-intake and a precisely adapted software. The air intake system replaces the standard air cleaner box and the unstable rubber hose of the intake air pipe completely.
Courtenay, nevertheless, claims 245 bhp (stage 2) with Exclusive Courtenay Sport Software Upgrade, airbox modifications, Full stainless steel 3" 76mm exhaust system (including front pipe & 200cpi sports cat) and Rolling Road Tune.

So, i understand vx-performance reach that hp numbers without any aftermarket exhaust, so with it would be more hp´s?, Aren´t hp numbers in vx-performance are too optimistic vs courtenay?

Why are so essential the external blow off valve? is the main cause to reduce lag and improve throttle response? what about the other air filter mods, lightwheel flywheel...

What vx-performance stage do you recommend for best throttle feeling and performance?
Another thing is i live in Spain, so...it´s possible send the ecu to Germany and they send the programmed ecu and the air intake system to Spain? Is easy to set up?

Cheers

**Would be interesting the 16 or 17 front (for best handling) in the 260 hp area, as from hp 17 front diameter wheel is adequate? if it is...

Just give Uwe a call. But he's on vacation right now, will be back on july 23nd. As far as I know stage 2.5 is the last one you can do without a dyno run. stage 3 and up need individual setups.

Yeah, i know, on july come back.

BTW, I want a remap with very smooth and consistent power delivery. Someboy told me Courtenay is, but know nothing about the vx-performance. His remaps are peakier or smooth? Very interested in your thoughts

I´m interested in stage 2, but no mention to the full eshaust, contains a completely from aluminum manufactured air intake system to charger-input inclusive an open airbox with cold-air-intake and a precisely adapted software.
I mean, if I add a full exhaust to stage 2, is possible to increase the hp´s without remapping?

Courtenay on the other way, make his stage 2 with a full exhaust line and a remap.

I don´t know what to choose...

Cheers
