Filled up oil and fluids last night, checked this morning and it seems dry. Battery down to 9v , so that will need sorting, then its electric looms and then spin it over to check oil pressure

When fitting the underdrive pulley, note the bolt pattern is assymetric. Because the pulley is a pretty tight fit, you won't be able to see the hole pattern or turn it easily through all 8 possible positions. To make the job foolproof, get four exhaust manifold studs and hand fit then to the crank, then the pulley will self align perfectly. Fitting a direct drive belt without a tensioner In the last picture, note all but the bottom bolt on the alternator ( and supporting brackets ) are removed , and the bottom bolt slackened off a touch. The alternator will now pivot fore and aft freely, so move it forwards as far as possible, and fit the belt. Turn both pulleys to draw the belt on where its aligned, and the unaligned section will be taken off the pulley as you turn (easier to turn with plugs removed). When done, pivot back the alternator and fit the top bolt nearest block first to gain tension, use a bar and some cardboard to help align and keep tension.

I'm not that confident , the head bolt tightening didn't go as smoothly as intended. second lot of 90' was okay, but on the third lot I was getting outside interference, "thats it , its too tight, don't do it anymore", but got there in the end.

I do have lots of bits left over that I felt not needed, and still plenty more still to remove , or make dual purpose.

yeah saw it , I'm a bit dubious as I apply common sense, look at the size of the fastener, the material its threaded into , how nasty/gritty does the thread feel and lastly how likely is it to round off.

My underdrive pulley had small hole to indicate which way it went on. When the car is at TDC the hole will be at the bottom. Makes things loads easier thumbsup

Yes mine had the pin hole by the odd bolt, but my crank pulley did not have a tdc marker, not that I could see. When the cambelt jumped, we had to determine TDC with a slide guage through the sparkplug hole.

the lower exhaust heatshield didn't make it its only been run on the drive, charging the battery and checking for leaks, which there was from the turbo oil 12 o'clock bolt. I won't know about coolant pressurising until its properly back on the road, before then I want to flush the coolant out a couple of times.

the cambelt tensioner worries me a bit , I might see if BoT can whip off the pulley and take off the CB cover and check its correct. I think from the noise , it might just need some mileage on it.

Is the cambelt tensioner needle within the 2 markers when the engine is cold Steve? I have to admit it worried me when I looked at mine, as the needle was near the limit and the whole assembly of that asymetic bolt tighning malarky looks dodgy! Still, they do seem to work. What are you getting noise from? The belt itself? Presumably you put a new water pump on?

yes new w.pump and tensioner when you fitted your tensioner, did you have to slightly untighten the bolt to make adjustment and the pointer to move, turning anti-clockwise the outer part of the mechanism via the hex

I can't remember exactly Steve, the whole device seemed slight counter intuative and tricky as I remember. Best read the instructions from somewhere like the Astra forums or somesuch as I simply can't remember how it worked. Sorry. :huh:
