Cheers for all the help guys. I went to Dreams at the weekend and tried out a load. I couldn't get on with the latex, just didnt feel right for me which is a shame as I wanted to like it.
I settled for the Tempur Cloud, whilst my eyes watered at the price. Mrs dw1 found it the most comfortable and I have to agree, so did I. I really like the way you gently sink into it and it feels so supportive.
Just got delivery today so it will be interesting to see how I get on with it.
I also got carried away as the Dreams guy gave me a 10% discount (they will if you push them) so I bought two Tempur pillows - over £80 each. Yikes. Let's hope I don't have to look at another bed or pillow for a decade!

I have a full tempur bed and pillows and it's amazing and not hot, the only issues are sometimes I sleep too deeply in it, and hotel beds etc I find very uncomfortable!

First night was very comfortable. I am airing it now as it does have that factory smell which apparently is a little bit toxic, my eyes got a bit itchy when squishing it to release trapped air, so I guess it's the VOCs from the chemicals releasing out. I hope this will be a passing phase.
I have read reports of some people having big allergic reactions to the vapours. I don't fall into that category but it does make you wonder if the matress totally airs out or does it always continue to release low levels of VOC?

be very interested to know how you get on.
What was the firmness you went for in the end?

It was the 22cm cloud. The cloud range is softer than some of the other traditional tempur range. The 25cm was too soft for me, felt like I was sinking. The 19cm wasn't there to try but might be a bit firmer. For my light body it felt right. I also stayed at a good temperature which is great as I was worried about overheating.

The smell does go but it is headache inducing for a couple of days then after a couple of weeks should be gone. It may linger for longer but not too strong.

It's now been a month since getting the mattress and I have just gone past the 30 day swap out period that Dreams offer. Mrs dw1 and I both enjoy it. The factory VOC smell has pretty much gone, slight traces are still there but I guess they will go. I do have a slight concern if it will continue to emit low level VOC. But too late now
It does give a good night's sleep. I am not waking up stiff like I was with my other 2 year old pocket sprung mattress. I like the sensation of that slight sinking feeling and luckily I am not getting hot in it which I was worried about.
I can see there is a difference in the viscoelastic mattresses compared to the foam mattresses. It's bloody expensive but I'm hoping it will last a decade and still give good support. Dreams in Staines gave me a 10% discount so they would probably do the same.
