You cant see visually without opening the relays up and even then you cant really tell unless they are propper fcuked. My old ones looked fine even inside but only really went away when i got new ones.

The yellow relay is the starter relay. It has an inhibitor module to stop the starter engaging if you press the button with the motor already running. The blue and black plugs carry the body wiring to the ECU. Things like the throttle pedal wires, second lambda and oil pressure wiring,

Chris, My idle also used to go up and down onstartup from cold for 10secs or so but it now does it for minutes and never settles, I think Map sensor is a good idea. Will wait to see if Auto Electrician picks anything up this afternoon first.

The blue and black plugs are loom connections they have a history of becoming drowned in water and corroding which in turn causes all manner of electrical issues and fault codes. A bit of WD in them and/or cleaning the contacts can commonly fix some issues.

Way to figure out if it's the fuel relay you won't hear the pump when turning the ignition on. It's got the uprated pump so you'll def hear it

We have had a breakthrough!! It does look as though it is the MAP sensor when they took it out and cleaned it the car ran better but not so good over 3.5k RPM. Vocky, does it have the standard MAP sensor for NA or did you change it when you did the SC conversion?

No, it's not the standard Z22SE MAP sensor. It's a 2bar sensor from another forced induction car. 1.7CDTi Corsa rings a bell.

standard Courtenay SC parts were used for the conversion, so it will have the 1.7 cdti map sensor

Thanks everyone for your help, especially Chris you almost donated his car to the cause!! It was indeed the MAP sensor. It only lasted 18 months!!
