i have a n/a and the mrs is wanting to get into trackdays in the car along with me, the plan never way to track it much really but she would rather use the vx than the kit car untill she is happy with driving on track which i understand. my question is for a n/a car what mods would people undertake to make sure the car will be happy on track? i took it to the ring this year and put a few laps in and also did a 20 min session of the GP circuitover there and the car was fine. Currently has 1144 pads f+r gaz golds and TD wheels, with braided lines and 5.1 fluid. was thinking of more track pads like rs14 and some ad08 tyres as the khumo kh31 and nearly past it, although i was worried that if i increase the grip i may need to upgrade the engine in terms of a sump baffle? or do they cope with track work ok in standard guise thanks for any input! alastair

You've got most of the bases covered there, if you decide go semi-slick tyres I would uprate the tie-rods though.

start with it standard. you can 'improve' later :) Its as much fun changing, adding, reversing and experimenting as it is anything else. if you start with it already in best shape the whole experience is slightly less rewarding.

its not standard at the moment,

but didnt want to go to spa in march for example to find that i just kill the pads after one hard session with afew hours to go after if that makes sense.

i dont know a massive amount the limits of these cars or engines so though i would throw it out to the experts ;)

Gearbox breather, new brake fluid and decent pads then just go enjoy. It is a great car as it is.

Is there a breather kit available to buy or just make you own kind of thing

Was going to change the pads anyway, and the tyres need changing soon anyway

All you need to make a breather really is a length of hose. Coil it upwards and point well away from tyres.

Gearbox breather is a must to avoid spraying gear oil on your NSR tyre. Other than that just make sure the car is in good order.

This. Along with regular stuff like maintaining your brakes and tyres even stuff you have already like the gaz and wheels isn't necessary.

I've done 30 odd days in vx's all of them near standard. Never tracked the SC. Well not after the conversion anyway.

Pretty well anything you do to a vx that will improve track performance will compromise it as a road car.

Bear in mind that 10 years ago these cars were being tracked straight out of the showroom with no mods at all. First mods, when needed, were brake pads and a decent geo. Other than that (and assuming fresh fluids) fit an ABS cut-off switch and go for it. chinky chinky

Oh yes ABS cutoff is a good call. Essential call actually if you dont want your day frustrated by the stupid ABS!

Thanks, It has abs disconnected, has been since I've had the car At least I know I don't really have to worry about changing anything, the engines I'm normally used to suffer from oil surge and that was one of my main concerns regarding using the vx on track. We best go book some stuff!

Quite good that

For £20 that's epic!

That and better pads and abs cut off, when the abs kicks in it gets the fluid hot quicker.
