yea it is, its not that realistic when the physics are concerned, its more sim-cade as its become known. but it does have a nice feel.

this is rFactor 2, still in beta but much better physics wise, you can actually see the car leaning when i take some corners.

Rfactor2 is pretty good in fairness. Still prefer live for speed for its feel and physics but looks dated now compared to the above two.

Is R-factor 2 released yet? Or is it still in Beta. Really do need to get back in the sim stuff, used to love it!

Just out of interest, how do the Physics of these PC games compared to GT5 / other console sims? I assume the PC ones are superior, but are they so superior that they make GT5 feels like an arcade game?

In fairness GT5 isnt really bad enough for any pc sim to make it out to be an arcade game.

Alot of pc sims have much better netcodes aswell so you can litterally race bumper to bumper and its smooth, unlike gt5 for example where cars flicker about.

Ill take some vids of (what i think) the better sims i have with some online racing.

Ah ok I see, I guess that GT5 was designed with single player in mind where as the PC sims are purely online races?

No not purely. Some are, but most dont have a career mode like gt5 tho. If you stick gt5 on sim and make sure in setting the driving model is on professional its actually not too bad imo.

I used to play a lot of GPL, then moved to LFS and then rFactor, then I hung up my Virtual boots. I am looking forward to rFactor 2 and I think Assetto Corsa looks interesting too. Time to dust off my old race sim gear and check it still works I think. (The pedals better still work, I paid £350 for them.)

Used to play rFactor, loved driving a BMW e21 320 round Lime Rock racing online. :-D One thing I find hard with sims is braking with no abs I guess due to lack of pedal feel. Fixed this at the time by stuffing some foam behind the brake pedal making it stiffer.

My pedals have a piston type thing for the brake that you can "tune" with rubber and springs for that feeling of pressure, much much better. Also came with a box of springs for the throttle and clutch. I see Frex are now doing hydraulic brake systems. Only £600 :o

Difference is I have logitechs base spec force feedback setup for about £30 quid a few years ago. I really need to stop being so tight but the foam works for me ;)

I would live to have a go on a proper setup anyone near Cambridgeshire got one??

I started with a Logitech Wingman FF, used rubber and a bolt to simulate the brake pressure and modified the wheel with a high res pot and full ball bearing conversion. Cost about £30 to buy bearings and housings but had to wait months for the housings to be sent from SA.
