Out today Quote "may we present you with the giant killer of 2004"!!! :P It classes it "stealthy performance as remarkable" Lapped 4th fastest in 54.70 seconds (behind the GT3 RS in 3rd with 54.2secs Imnotworthy and ahead of the M3 CSl by .05 sec) and had the 3rd fastest speed thru Surtees corner(85.1mph) Scored 8/10 points on track thumbsup VXR overall came 10th out of 20 :( Said it was too hard for the road (Ohlins on the KE04 GWW?) as it scored 10/20 points (the R500 Evo scored the same  ) Exige (7th overall) lapped in 56.2 secs, and 111R(4th overall) in 57.4 secs. Monaro VXR in 58.2

I love the suspension so far. I think it feels firmer but in a pleasant way. The road on the approach to my house is particularly bumpy. Ok the VXT was getting on a bit however the VXR bangs less and seems a much more pleasant ride. Or maybe that is just the "halo" effect.

Can anyone comfirm whether or not that car had ohlins on it. Having read the review I would guess it did as they were more critical about its road manners than the exige. Oh and how can they give it the same mark out of ten on a track as an MX5 :o

Apparently the scoring scheme has become less track focused this year so how in gods name did it win last year??!!

Anyway, bit more reading and the drivers notes on the elise read "the ideal combination would be elise/exige with VX engine" thumbsup

So, the question to be answered is did the car have Ohlins or not.... Maybe the std setup is best?? I can save a grand for a private plate, stereo and armourfend!!

It looks like this will be a reality come next year but Lotus will be using the 250bhp engine.

i'm sure GWW runs standard suspension. At least it did in one of the magazines about a month back.

If you look in Autocar 2 weeks ago (and since I don't know when) , they have 'What's coming when' under Summer 2004 is Lotus Elise 190, V6 but interestingly in this weeks that entry has been removed

As I read the VXR @ No.10 I guessed it was with ohlins, but if it was with standard then what would the track time have been with the 'track superior' ohlins settings ???

I thought the funniest figure was the R500 Evo having the same 10/20 for road use as the VXR        I must be missing something :P

Cheers, Ian

As you know, the current deal Lotus and Vauxhall have is that Lotus cannot bring out a turbo'd elise as that would be direct competition to the VXT and as such would harm sales. It was a similar deal like they had with Rover whereby they could not bring out an Elise with more bhp than the mgf. :(

However, with the vx finishing production next year, Lotus have "allegedly" secured a deal which will let them use the new 250bhp engine which is due next year in the S3 Exige and a few Elise variants. Given that the Exige weighs less and Lotus are very good with turbo'd engines this could be a real giant killer of a car. (much like the VXR is quoted in Autocar ;) )

There is still talk/rumours of vauxhall using this engine in a final "VXR" to finish the end of production. It may even use the new 6 speed box which is being put in the new Astra. But I must stresss these are only rumours and as I have said before Stu Harris says they are bo**ocks. I have quoted whits from a few other posts which sort of say what i'm trying to say regarding the rumours of a final VX.

In a couple of weeks production will be slowing down but there is still a contract between Lotus and Vauxhall so there is still just under a years work left. As for there being a special edition to finish with, I think you may be right but no confirmation as yet. The big rumour is that Vauxhall can't sell the cars at the current rate of production which is why we're slowing down

I've already said the same thing in another topic so I'll keep this short:- There's another yers production left, probably will be a special edition to finish, 250bhp engine is only a rumour, at the moment

What's even more amazing is that the Porsche Beetle GT3 RS got 11/20 on the road despite having 'The RS was, in a word, horrid in this environment' wrt road driving on a B road. From the write up it does sound like it had the fancy suspension - but again, it's not on, cause why weren't Vauxhall there to adjust the suspension to better road settings like Ian Litchfield did on the Subaru Impreza Type 25? Missed opportunity me thinks.
