Personally I feel their oil recommendations and technical understanding area is weak, but that is because I have access to information that very few people in the industry do (based on the size of my department and the size of our market share, I would say there are about 300 people in the world who do what I do).

From you, that's probably fair enough, but like you say you are one of the few people in the world that has access to that level of information. When Guy went to your labs he was very impressed with the set up and it's something that we'd never have, but I do feel that compared to other retailers we give pretty good advice.

I think that comes accross in the posts and you don't need to be an expert to see it (though i also used to work in a tribology lab). This is why i always jump at oilman's throat on here.

I'd prefer a straight, buy our oil, here is a discount advert. The theory posts which are wikipedia rehashes purporting to be expert views are annoying.

That said, i still buy my oil from opie oils and will continue to do so. The story of the company is a good one, the customer service excellent and would not hesitate to recommend them. (See Bargy, nice things to say too :P)

I'm glad you come to us for the oil and that we aren't all bad :)

I don't go on Wikipedia for data though and in general if people preferred that we just gave you discount codes, that's good with me, it's a lot less work. Just let me know.

Cheers

Tim

Strange thread. Oilman posts advice on here which relates to our cars, which is helpful and well explained. Gives an idea on fluids to use, with no link or sole rights to any product. Then gets slagged off for posting something that is of use to much of us?
As for copy of Wiki, most people on here can't even Google 'How to change a headlight bulb' on a VX, so what does it matter?
Thanks for the info, i have used you quite a few times in the past, and no doubt will do in the future, you're customer service has always been second to none IMHO.
Here, have a link on me:

Got to say i agree! Seems to be a helpful link from someone that knows what they're talking about. Even if it was an advert ,what's the harm in that? I'd rather buy from someone that is posting on the forum with advice.

Thanks.

Not having a go at anybody in particular here, or sticking up for the OP in any way, but it is a shame that there are threads asking for advice that don't get a single response, however a thread where somebody is trying to give advice, no matter the underlying motive gets 3 pages of negative "interest"... I must say, I read the OP as "don't rush out and put thicker oil in as it may not be the right thing to do", nothing more, nothing less. Maybe that's as I have signatures disabled :D

Best thing I've found for cold gearchanges (and the F23 box in general) is to - as long as you have a breather pipe fitted - fill the box with 2.3lts not the 'book' 1.8 makes a big difference :) & yep I'm on MT90 from Opie & always had great service, great prices & always delivered next day thumbsup
