Real quick one here. I know this has been covered MANY MANY times. I've read all the threads but need some guidance/assurance.

I have the front jacked up and on axle stands. The front suspension has been stripped. However I now need to jack up the rear and put it on stands so I can strip out the wishbones etc.

It currently has a stand on both front points (A)

If I use 2 jacks at point ( B) which points © or (D) should I use? I'm planning on removing the jacks once it is on stands if possible.

Then where is point © / (D) ? I presume from pics (D) is where the toe links join the subframe(?) It doesn't look like it would take the load too well, would this point hinder removing toe link or wishbones?

If point © is there a certain place along the shear panel it should go?

ps it's friggin cold and wet/snowy outside :(

For point D you need to remove the diffuser. They are under the allen bolts. We had the discussion before. Somebody needs to knock up a bar like this one: Then add a tow eye to it, so it can be used for jacking, dyno runs and maybe for track days. Biggest problem is to make it compatible with most diffusers, so it needs some spacers at the top.

and JG's project thread it looks like (D) is indeed where the toe link joins...

Hmmmm. Good luck with that. Should have got the whole car in the air to start with. It's going to be fun trying to lift it at the sides now, with the front on stands.

Yeah :( the plan was to do front/rear separately due to space but not feasible now. I have actually managed to slow get it up so that I can near enough get the stand onto where I think point D is. Just looking for confirmation that is the right spot. Think I will be leaving the jacks in place so will be over 6 points as well.

IIRC there's a jacking point at the front of the shear panel near the fuel tank? Didn't someone once make spacers so you could jack it with the undertray in place? Might be worth a look. Alternatively you could VERY CAREFULLY jack on the wishbone where the shock mount is. Not recomended and its your lookout but should be OK.

Another thing in my collection of bits I've never fitted or couldn't work out how. :beat:

Ok it's there!

I'm incredibly wet and cold now but it has no wheels left and hasn't fallen over. It has been jacked at the very front of the chassis beams as normal. A jack either side where the cross beam is. Then finally a stand where I think the 'tower' is, so just where the toe links join.

Pics to confirm where I mean and hopefully one of you more knowledgeable chaps will be able to say yay or nay and correct it to give a definitive answer with pics to go with it.

That should be fine, but personally I'd also add something like a cut up railway sleeper or old tyre / wheel underneath, but thats probably just me..

i use a block of wood between axle stand and tub on the front to avoid marking the tub. And on the rear, though you can't really see it in the pic, i use a bit of carpet between the subframe and the axle stand. otherwise it fine (just need to go a bit higher so its more comfortable to work on).

Is the reasoning behind removing the diffuser first or just to give a better jacking point/less chance if slipping. Couldn't someone knock up a longer bolt and jacking point that bolted under the diffuser. Nothing too heavy. Surely that would be easy for some if you lot in here.

How did you get it onto the pallet?

Can't think how this would be done without axle stands?

An old thread is coming alive.
Used only one portable jack and built up under the wheels.
The main reason for using pallets is that it makes it easy to move the car around, as we do not have so much space in the garage.
