Done these

Lightweight wheels and nuts

thinner front and rear clam with no boot and plenty of holes

thinner roof and bonnet/boot

no heater

2kg battery

lightened hubs

ali bells

T45 wishbones

full interior panel and plastic delete

carbon seats with ali brackets

seat belts removed

stripped doors with inner section cut out and perpex windows

kevlar fuel tank

thinner aluminum undertray and diffuser

ali engine and gearbox mounts

lightweight flywheel

lightweight exhaust with no cat

So a bit more to do, I have added the cage though

I bought the wing off cliffie, it was on his TA car last year, not sure where he got it from, I know JJJ made the uprights for it

My problem is that I cock about taking a couple of kg's out of it here and there then get in it and add about 102kg's!!!!!!

Problem solved let Jez drive it

670kg's seems a tad optimistic!!  MAXR's is crazy light and he's not sub 700kg's and he's SC.  Rapidos did crazy work lightening his too (a tubby) and I don't think he achieved 670kgs....  For a tubby you're talking about losing 260kgs.....

well team dynamics arnt all that light, they are cheap and strong but light they arnt!

I contacted them when I was looking for wheels and they were just to heavy for me.

Get that battery changed, thats a relatively cheap weight saving.

I use a 5kg battery for £50 because im tight but its done me for 4yrs and its 7kg lighter than the stock one.

wishbones will save you 8kg, but will cost you £1k so not cheap

Im making my own kevlar fuel tank, but if you didnt want to then get pro alloy to make you a 340r tank, save about 6.5kg there.

Its amazing how heavy your car is if you have done all that stuff on the list.

Realistically if I went really mad on mine I could get it down to 640kg including the turbo grubbins

Im just looking through your thread now to try and work out the weight, your cage looks fairly heavy and you do have to carry a fire extinguisher system.

You could take off your rear lights and make moulds and put a couple of lightweight leds in for brakes etc

Just got to the end of your thread and your right, there isnt much to change.

Maybe pop onto exiges.com and have a look at jonny fox thread in owners section, his is a s2 with a toyota engine, so similar situation to you and I think he is close to 800kg flat, might give you some ideas.

Shame your car is so heavy, bet it would fly with 200kg weight taken off!

And there be the difference between an S1 chassis and body and a VX/S2 chassis and body.

5o'clock, sounds like MAXR and Rapidos are the 2 guys to speak to about weight loss, they might be able to come up with solutions to save more weight.

Do you have a tubular manifold or a cast job?

from what ive read, there isnt much weight difference between the ali tub between the s1/s2/vx

you will have heavier hubs I would have thought and maybe a heavier subframe.

But there has been s2 k series cars in the low 700kg mark, never seen a sub 700kg one mine, but im sure I spoke about 6months ago to someone who got theres to 705kg.

i saved 20kg going to a lightweight exige body from an elise one.

Maybe thats next, get some thin front and rear clams made, have you weighed the clams as that will give an idea what can be pulled from doing them?

Is there a known weight for your roll cage?

also your running stock wing mirrors, replace them with some lightweight bike mirrors, ive got a set for mine to put on a set of spare doors, though I wont ever need to look behind me on track, where you will always be watching your mirrors so not sure if its a good suggestion

I'm amazed at how much the bonnet and boot lids weigh. There's certainly potential for weight saving there, even just cutting it down to single skin.

I have a massive spreadsheet with the weight of very concievable part down to nuts and bolts if anyone is interested.

It is in a complex Excel spreadsheet and you can sort/filter by price/weight ratio etc.

:yeahthat:

The three vent bonnet I made was lighter than OE without trying.  The OE bodywork is quite heavy.

some interesting ideas in there for everyone trying to save weight, just make stuff out of carbon yourself and replace anything steel with aluminum

Some good weight savings to be made on the engine. Flywheel 5kg, balance shafts 1-2kg. This is rotating mass so has a larger effect than static mass. There are also quite a few brackets etc that can be removed + a light weight alternator 2-3 kg and the lower amperage reduces loads. As said TD too heavy. Fit Elise hubs and forged wheels probably worth another 10kg.
