If you're going to dump the clutch at max revs then you'll just light the wheels up.

No one said about simply dumping the clutch at max revs, that doesn't work for any car.   But to get a proper set of figures on a car you'd need to do multiple launches to ascertain where the best level of grip and acceleration is, and just how much to either sidestep or slip the clutch on take off - as well as where to change gear. Talking of which, you'd need to flat shift (keep the accelerator pinned) as you do swap cogs, and pay no attention to the noises as you do so. Brutal...   G
All of which is why "in the real world" acceleration times from stationary are almost meaningless for the vast majority of cars bought, and why in-gear times are far more representative of how quick a car actually is..   Its the same to me as comparing max. BHP to the actual engine power / torque through the RPM range - those few extra horsepowers at 7k rpm are virtually useless in most scenarios. Both factors sell cars though.
I I fully agree but a 0 to 60 or 0 to 100 from a normal start and normal gear change that's repeatable without destroying your car in few runs would be a good guide. Are we saying the Manufactures times are only doable leaving a trail of bits and if so can they be more than say half a second or so faster than joe soap can manage without damaging the car much. If one car says a 0 to 60 of say 5.5 and one say 7.5 then presumably the 5.5 is the faster car. Also in gear times are iffy as it depends on your gearing one car to another. So basically are we talking simply just look at the power to weight to compare performance. .

Same applies for first to second. Floor the throttle and dip the clutch you'll bounce off the Rev limiter as you change from first to second and more than likely spin the wheels again as you release the clutch. But I agree with trying multiple thing to find the optimum settings for a 0-60 run. Plenty of variables that affect it.

very old test I did , around 2009 , but 40 - 100 , or the OTR on the road dyno , only a stage 3 , but 6 seconds . The best I managed with the CS3 map was
40-100 5.7s
40-90 4.4s

Fast is the wrong term here, my wife's Fiesta will do over 100, which is pretty fast, but takes two weeks to get there, the correct term to use must be QUICK, not fast. Top speed in the h/book is 151.

Sorry to have started this! Went for 0-60 4.0 Top speed 150 Power 255 Torque 220 Lb Weight 900kg. That'll hopefully be enough to shut little Tommy up and his nerdy engine obsessed dad. Martin

Now you know how I feel going anywhere in my work vehicle. As soon as you stop a queue forms with questions. Its ok on Weymouth beach as theres plenty of fit ones in bikinis but at the service station it gets bloody annoying when a coach of the purple rinse brigade pulls up!
