I've had the Courtenay  Uprated 'Competition' Clutch on my car for a few years now and not had any issues. I have 320Ibs and do a lot of track days in it. It is OEM in feel. Courtneays website says its fine into the mid 300Ibs

Many thanks,

I was sold the car with a newly installed Sachs uprated clutch and it has struggled with the torque at around 3000 rpm from day one.  A year and less than 1000 miles later it just can't be relied on to grip when you need it.

I did see the cheap self proclaiming clutch kits on ebay but with the clutch change being a pain in the backside on a VX I don't want to take a chance, preferring to do it only once.

so it looks like the Helix 6-paddle, which sounds like it may be the one Courtenay supply anyway.

Should I fit a new flywheel, car has done a smidge over 60k but 58 of that was un-modified.  If so is there something better suited than standard?

Turbobob cheers for the link, it seems the logical place to buy it with far too many fake parts around to take risks.  Just two questions, is this the best place to get the release bearing?  Is it uprated from the standard vauxhall part?  Mine is only around 600 miles old but I intend to change it anyway for peace of mind, and of course any suggestion on the flywheel.

Personally, I wouldn't change a 600 mile old release bearing.  I have a lightweight flywheel and will be replacing it with the original when the engine comes out.  I drive the car in traffic and it's a lot easier to pull away with the standard item.  They're not dual mass, so no reason to change unless you want to lighten.

I'm sure a few tubby owners haven't been keen on the lightened flywheel when I looked into it. Helix direct wouldn't do a deal for me so I got from Courtenay.

As I am after road manners it sounds like the standard flywheel edges it so I will leave alone if in ok condition.

With the other clutch parts only a year old I'm going to try not to change them either.  It may be fool hardy but only time will tell.

I am going to try to get a helix clutch discounted by going through a local garage rather than online purchas.  I don't hold out a lot of hope but will let you know.

I believe the Sachs comes with a different flywheel so you may have to source a standard item from somewhere too....

Thats not the Courtenay uprated clutch - that is a 'normal' organic clutch with an uprated cover, not a paddle.

The flywheel won't change the manners really. It just allows the engine to spin up quicker and in theory may help with acceleration.

I have had lightened flywheels before and they have made the engine response much faster and more switch like which was great in my younger days but I don't need that any more.  Smooth effortless torque surfing will do me. I was really wondering whether the standard flywheel will need replacing, I don't know if they wear on the VX.  Now of course I have the possibility of finding a modded one already in there.

I was quoted circa £600 for the clutch change labour and a couple of small tasks at the same time.  I'm doing it myself when the weather turns bad .

I believe £550 to fit by Courtenay & MMG.
