I've noticed a few people seem to be using the uprated steering arm kit from Elise parts. Looking on the eliseparts website is it as good as it sounds? I.e Is there a noticeable difference in reduced bump steer? And is it a worthwhile mod? Thanks in advance :)

Along the lines of the normal roads being bumpy and therefore effecting the steering significantly?

Bump steer is basically the change in toe in/camber of the road wheels caused when the arc of the steering rack arm differs to the arc of the wheel travel, i.e. when the wheel travels through its full bump and droop motion, the wheel will toe in/out at different points of movement. During this motion the wheels will tend to steer themselves and this is felt through the steering wheel as bump steer. This reduced bump steer kit offers several advatages over the steel OE steering arms. Lightweight yet strong aluminium steering arms are less than 1/2 the weight of the original cast steel steering arms and a great saving of un-sprung weight. Black Hard anodised for the ultimate hardness and corrosion resistance Uses high quality rod ends (easier to change than tapered track rod ends). For road use we recommend our rubber dust covers, warranty is void without these. Supplied complete with our special stainless steel camber shims, high grade cap head bolts and two of the best quality rod ends available (easier to change and adjust than tapered track rod ends). Designed to offer up to 2.5 degrees more negative camber than the original steering arms and supplied with several height adjusting stainless steel conical washers for fine tuning bump steer at whatever ride height required. The arms are designed to be at the same angle as the wishbone pivot points even at low ride heights thus reducing bump steer.

I've read that lee :) but I just wanted to see if it's as good as it sounds as it certainly sounds good from the description. I.e is there a noticeable difference on the road?

I would say hard driving you will notice the difference but camper does have negatives like killing tyres . And you can spoil a road car by playing with stuff to much you need to think what you use the car mainly for .

Yes I wasn't being flippant even though I can be a cheeky sh*t. If you lived closer you could take the car out and see what you made of the setup. Pop down to the meet tomorrow at Sywell :D

Shame your not closer Rob and I could o took you up on your offer :) Is there any negatives to this mod as I can only see the positives going by the description? Like a lot of mods, you hear more about the positives but never the negatives if any :)

It won't make a blind bit of difference. Spend the money on your standalone ECU. If you were to get this kit you'd want to have the rear uprights machined down as well. Then you'd need a completely new geo and camber set up. It'll eat your inner tyre tread and for the money won't give you much benefit per £.

:yeahthat:

what he said.  For most its a box ticking / pub talk exercise but if your money is burning a hole in your pocket got for it.  It wont do anything that you'll notice as adverse.

It's not the fact "I've got money burning in my pocket" as if this was the case I certainly don't. But If this is going to make a difference I don't mind paying the money for it but no point paying it If there isn't any difference :)
