So im getting the noise of engine mount failure under acceration in 1st and 2nd, how do I check which one or ones have failed or on the way out? Is it worth replacing them all and is there any point to getting the uprated ones from eliseparts? Regards GiGo

Remove arch liner and get a pry bar on them. If they are bad enough to make a noise then it should be visible when you lever between them and the chassis. Front and rear ones are a visual inspection.

Edit. I wont be bothering with uprated side mounts until  the standard ones are no longer available.

Don't they also leak their fluid? I know mines did, and that's why it was replaced - that was before it made any noise either (though I was on a TD the day after so made sense to replace there and then).

Autovaux have found a new supplier for the OEM mounts so fingers crossed, we should have a supply for the foreseeable future.

When my passenger side mount went it sounded like something was grinding under the passenger seat.

As said, I could tell which one of mine had gone by where the noise was coming from. I only changed that one too, not the other side

bad move imho.

Usually (100% of cars I've changed mounts on) if one side has failed to the level of making noise then the other side will have failed in some manner too.

Given how cheap they are and how easy the job is, just do both at the same time.

Unless a previous owner has only changed one before 😃

My logic was that it would save any labour time in dong them both so I might as well wait until it gets noisy. For all I know it could already have been changes the week before I bought it.

Or you could change the mount, go for a drive and still have noises... so wasted labour time too.

swings and roundabouts. 'yer own car' and all that bollocks.

When I first picked my car up I though the o/s/r wheel was coming off under hard acceleration, the o/s/r mount was literally in half. I changed both but had the clam off anyway for a major service.

Soooo...have I got this right?...

*I'm going to change both the side mounts. The front/rear mounts should be fine (?) but if I fit Powerflex inserts (black series for track?) the side mounts should last longer, and there should be some kind of performance enhancement?

(*read Partridge)

technically yes.

in reality, its a tricky call as the mounts 'tend' to only fail if you do lots of hard starts/drive like a bellend* so normal mounts can last 50-60K+ without failing....

*note this doesnt exclude driving fast/on track.

Car is being 'groomed' for track. I want it to be like a tatty version of JG's!
