Did you design the cooling for the red bull Renault engine??

Has anyone "designed" cooling for the engine? Coz it appears it's been forgotten!

This is really difficult for me as it's personal and professional now. I've poured a LOT of my heart and soul into this. And it's difficult to see this. I really hope things pick up for them.

Do tell?

Not forgotten, Bob convinced Adrian an intercooler was better than charge cooling

 In F1 the last thing I can imagine the Red Bull team want to do is store heat in a charge-cooling system. The combination of carrying water and storage of built up heat would surely be a bad bad idea.

at the side here is the hot side, with the twin exhaust packaging feeding the turbo , on the top you can see the intake manifold in the V , and the turbo cold air intake and the exit

No point in posting that pic. They'll be re-homologating this one today.

much more power, 1500bhp IIRC? Probably would only get a third of race distance on 100L though.

They should be so lucky to have to worry about that.

ooo. do they lock up? i.e trash the engine?

So not only are not going to finish any of the first races, they won't even be starting race 6 onwards, since they will have used an engine in each of the first races.

Can't learn too much from this testing. The teams always do a fuel tank calculation by letting the cars run down to zero, that way they know exactly what limits to get away with. With all the different power configurations (as they won't have been running ERS to start with) this process will happen a few times as they learn how the new engines work.

This clearly isn't the only reason they're stopping, however it is a factor. Technically the cars shouldn't lock up as the ERS is fed by the turbo, however if the issue is power storage related then it might be taking down all the powered systems with it.

Not quite correct. They are fed by the turbo and the crank.

Request to change to engine homologation timing/rules have been rejected by F1 strategic group. I guess the strategy for Renault now will be to homologate the highest power configuration and fix it via allowed reliability and fuel economy upgrades.

Okay, so it's possible to 'brick' an F1 car now? Interesting

Yep. They'll be submitting the specs of the platinum and rhodium version of the engine for homologation. Will leave them plenty of room for "cost cutting" measures after that, when they move back to less exotic materials.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that is how last seasons KERS energy was generated through engine braking.
