I have caused minor damage to the front of my car a need to repair it. My long term plan is to buy a Jonnyboy clam and have a good quality full respray, but for now I just want to make it a bit more apealling on the eye without spending too much (the gaffer tape look is rubbish). I'm not wanting to spend loads of cash on the body work until I've got the track day bug out of my system.  The damage is limited to the upper portion of the right side of the front clam and is beyond repair. I have a cunning plan to patch in part of another clam. All I need is a clam that is intact enough to do the job.

 

The section I need is what you would class as the front right wing on a conventional metal bodied car. The left side, bonnet and lower part of the front clam are all perfectly ok. So, if you have an old smashed clam lying around that has enough left of it for me to patch mine up let me know.

Basically, the right hand side of the front clam. Here is a pic:

 

 

 

The front wheel didn't take any of the impact and the bumper didn't take much either, hence why the clam is so badly damaged. Astonishing amount of damage considering it was a low speed impact.  There is a small amount of damage below the headlamp but it is very minor and easily fixed.

 

You can see in the picture where the upper part of the clam joins the front lower clam. I want to replace the whole of the right hand upper clam, as far as the big crack you see on the right hand side of the photo. If any one knows of a clam that been damaged on the other side please let me know. It is that time of year after all.................

Yes I saw that, the price seems a bit steep considering the extent of the damage to it. I'm sure that Hillside repairs are UK Lotus centre, they don't have a very good rep on this forum. Cheers for the heads up though.

I have complete repaired front clam, damage was lower front bumper section which I repaired with an MVS lower clam section. Could use a bit of finishing to make it perfect but if your not looking for perfection will just need spraying. Happy to take your damaged one in part-ex for repair.

I can't remember if I kept the old parts of my clam, if I did it's be perfect for this, I'll check tomorrow.

The shape is there but it is littered with cracks. I might try and find a fibre glass specialist local to me and see if it can be repaired. Worth a try I suppose.

 

I did see the other clam on ebay but I'd have to carry out a lot of repair work on it before fitting it. I'd rather find a near side damaged clam and just chop the bit off I need.

Purchase some bulk fibreglass and resin for about £30 and you could easily sort it yourself to a acceptable standard...

I don't think repair is an option unfortunately, there would be about 20 cracks to deal with and 4 broken mounts. It would double the weight of the car with the amount of new fibreglass required!

You'd be suprised how easy it is to repair, took a bit of work but managed to repair this one to a use-able condition. Didn't want to cut my original up for louvers so brought second hand one instead...

Thanks but I have my new clam. Next week I'm seeing a guy about painting it, possibly even the whole car. We'll see. Hopefully this little nightmare will have a fairy tale ending.

The worst thing is that it wasn't my fault John. Some bugger at Donington thought it would be funny to turn the tyre wall magnets on.
