Hello Everyone,

 

I had my very first track day with my VX220 and I really enjoyed it! I love all bits and pieces about the car and like the behaviour very much!

 

On the other hand I would like to post some questions, you may be able to answer easily:

- I used regular road tyres and thinking about upgrading to semi slicks. Is there anything in the suspension I have to upgrade also?

- If I upgrade the tyres will I experience shorter lifetime for certain parts of the car? (clutch, suspension, brakes, etc...)

- How is the balance of the car changes with semi slicks?

 

I really enjoyed it, but I realized that 99% is using semi slicks or slicks for trackdays....

Toe links and cub carrier bolts are a good idea if tracking, stickier tyres will put more stress on them too. Brakes and clutches will wear more while tracking anyway, prob no extra from the tyres

I have AD08's which are a kind of a softcore track day tyre... they are great on road and track in my experience, but have to confess I haven't used 888's or AD48's or the like.

 

As above, toe links and hub carrier bolts are the 2 things you'd change... and treat as service items when you regularly track, semi slicks or not.

You can get the hub carrier bolts from JG on here through mango motorsport.

Better yet, fit a decent toe-link upgrade and also benefit from double shear mountings, instead of finding out you can no longer get the parts for the NA VX220.

If you're on standard wheels you may not find any semi slick tyres to fit on the front rims. Most of us running track day tyres have swapped wheels to give a greater choice. With sticker tyres you might also want to change the brake pads and fluid to take advantage of the extra grip (you should do this anyway if you're going to track regularly).

16" astra alloys give a much better choice of tyre size:

 

 

You need wheels spacers though.
