As per title, anyone got any decent new or used four-pot front brakes for sale?

Cash waiting for the right 'kit'. What have you got?

Why not get a set of the MGF ones and get a local shop to mod them like JT did.  Piston size is supposed to be a better match to the OEM rears.

As these are on sale, currently considering these as price seems reasonable.

It is a possibility Matt.

Agreed, some bells and rotors with decent 2pot pads will be a far better use of money.

I understand the 'benefits' of four pots are not more braking ability (on a car as light as ours) or even more bite - both of those can be had from a better pad and disc set up on the standard 2 pots.

Agreed, some bells and rotors with decent 2pot pads will be a far better use of money.

See above.

However I have had (admittedly minor) brake heat issues on track with the two pots in my old VXT from being out for longer than a 10-12 min session at Pembrey. Worth adding that was with new fluid, recent (and decent) pads and discs.

Not if you have to pay VAT like me Tom.

The Elise shop ones are £1,500 inc VAT. The Seriously Lotus ones are £1,260 inc VAT.

Agreed, but I'll have considerably more power and be carrying more speed (in theory, thanks to set up and wheel/tyres etc) while also hoping to spend more time on track with this car than with the T.

Also, I spunked £600 on a 60L fuel tank (fitted last night) and I sit there and think if there's anything I shouldn't be skimping on then it's brakes, so if I can spend that much on something I really didn't need, then I should probably spunk a little more than that on some brakes!

And when I say minor, I mean I lost all braking force on the way into the hairpin at Pembrey - and generally I reckoned I was quite gentle on the T's brakes while on track. I suspect I'll be more aggressive in the new car.

This is in illogical view and i start by stating that.

But i hated the VX's brakes prior to my little upgrade and now i love them. So much confidence and repeatability it totally transforms the way you drive the car.

My upgrade was;

VXR abs unit

4 Pot AP front calipers

Ferrodo 2500 pads (including recent replacement as they don't last very long ~5-6k miles) front and rear

Plans Ali Bells and 308 Reyland rotors

Stainless hoses

Motul RBS600 (or something like that) fluid, changed yearly (it comes out the colour it goes in, a bit like the oil )

Now, it may well be that only one of those would have has the same effect, i don't know. All i know is that the ham fisted, change everything approach worked brilliantly.

I started with 308 solid discs which were fine, but the improvement in steering feel on the lighter wheels and rotors is quite stark.

What pads?  Sounds like they weren't up to the job.

exactly!

I have done 24H races on slicks with the std 2 pots, no issues (1 pad change at 14 Hours)

sounds like sh*t pads and disks to me.

only advantage 4 pots have is:

1) bigger pads - longer life

2) can be sped'ed for bigger/fatter disks

unless your doing endurance racing on slicks, really not worth it, just spend the money on PROPER disks and pads.

if you were looking at rotor options from PF, Alcon or Tarox , is 25.4mm the obvious choice thickness for the 2pot

likewise for ease of availability 295 ⌀  , with 12x 177.8 pcd x 6.4 ⌀ mountings
