Hello all, i have only had the pleasure of meeting a handful of VX owners but due to the forums kind nature i will be staying in touch. For those who don't know i spent the winter modifying my red VXT previously owned by Dan Robinson preparing it for Stage 4.
With everything in place and with only the turbo and new clutch to fit before my Scheduled day at Courtenay Sport i encountered a change of heart.
My Brother decided to purchase a SC VX220 in red running TD 1.2's. Now to all VX owners the differences between a Turbo and NA are only too apparent. However, it didn't take long before the p*ss taking from friends started and people started confusing the two cars. I was then faced with the following options:
- Spray the VXT white shortly after my appointment with Courtenay Sport.
- Purchase a EVO X (having owned an EVO 8 previously i always felt a draw)
- Purchase a Noble M12 (always loved nobles!)
- Purchase a Lotus Exige (why wouldn't you?)
I then started to evaluate my options, the respray was coming in too costly and i would never see a return on the money spent. The mundane look of the EVO X and its shocking fuel economy put it to the bottom of the pile. I was then left with two choices, the Exige or the Noble??
I planned on modifying which ever car i brought and both the Exige and the Noble have their inherent problems when pushing the power. I am also very friendly with the guys at Pro-Alloy which would come in handy when modifying either car. My decision was made when my brother notified me that he had passed an Exige S on the side of the road with a for sale sign in the window only 6 miles from my house!
After visiting the gentleman the car sounded too good to be true. It was HPI clear, 2 owners, Full Lotus SH, 50K miles, Touring pack and near standard. The owner also made the mistake of advertising it at the same price he brought it for 3 years ago as he hadn't yet listed it online. This made the car £4-5K under priced!! I took full advantage of this made him a ridiculous offer knowing his counter would be half way!! Before i knew it i had just brought an Exige S!!
I thought my VXT on nitrons, TD's and Semi slicks handled well but OMG! The confidence i feel when pushing the Exige through corners is bordering on dangerous!! The straight line speed is quite poor in comparison to the VX but this will soon be changed! My charge cooler is already on order with Pro-Alloy and exhaust is soon to be ordered. I aim to have the Exige pushing 300 BHP by summers end.
I hope to see some of you at a meet sometime soon. Regards, J
