Excuse my ignorance
I've seen some exige's with the roof taken off, is it only certain versions of the exiges where you can take the roof off?
I was explained that the S2 scoop was there for a very valid reason. Taking it off even would invalidate the warranty in the event of a claim. I have however also been told that it is perfectly safe to drive with it off just don't push it.

Really? How come there only good for that when something like mine is closer to 350 to 400 bhp is fine? The gearbox will be on the limit at 300bhp
Because the Toyota gearbox was designed for low capacity, 4-cylinder NA engines, not for a combination of petrol or diesel engines like the F23.
Torque kills (and heat) gearboxes, not power.

Yep, it's needed to protect Lotus owners' bouffant hair.

The short or half scoop Exige roof isnt functional. The long scoop is open at the back and technicall functional.

All S2 exige's have removable hard tops, the fixngs are identical to the elise/vx

I was also explained to by the technical bod at lotus that the hard top was fitted to gain "optimum performance" etc etc which could easily be said about the hard top to any elise/vx.
There would be no warrenty / insurance issues that I can see due to the following extract from the s2 exige owners manual
"The lotus exige has been conceived and configured as a sports coupe with a removable roof. The aerodynamic performance of the bodyshell including the front splitter, rear aerofoil, roof panel and tailgate have been tuned to provide the optimum handling balance with he roof scoop on the supercharged cars providing the cooling airflow for the charge cooler.
The roof panel may be removed for better access to the interior for servicing, and the car may be driven without the roof fitted, but wind buffeting and increased noise levels will be experienced, together with a slight decrease in maximum power on supercharged cars"
Plus it looks pants with the roof off (don't tell JoeT though!!)
yeah yeah - I drive the exige with the roof off for my own pleasure, not for others ;-) plus the stage 3 exhaust / trd airbox sound so much better with the roof off through tunnels :-)

I met a guy at a track day that had his roof off, but he had a scoop attached that he had bought somewhere that would make the car breath as well with the roof off.
Might be worth a search.
