Tired of struggling laid on my back with the car on 9" ramps. After looking at other peoples thread on these managed to pick one up off eBay, ex demo model £250

Roll it under car, adjust width and wind up. Once up just tilt it back or forward or lock it in whatever position you want. Will lift car horizontal up to 60cm height before tilting so also ok for working on suspension etc with all wheels off.

Needs extra support via stands if you intend to leave it for more than a few minutes and particularly if you are going underneath it but so far made a number of jobs much easier

Bit nervous at first but you soon start to realise that the large rubber pads hold it in place very adequately

I've been hovering over Buy-it-now buttons for one of these for years now. Might finally succumb to the temptation.

If I got under that I'd need a crowbar to prise my ball bag out of my abdomen.

Only scary thing is making it pivot, it locks in place after that. Certainly much less scary than my usual lazy solution of a trolley jack each side.

if you had a engine hoist , could you just drop the engine/gearbox out the bottom

You wouldn't need a hoist.  Tip it backwards, prop engine onto a skateboard, undo engine mounts, tip forwards, wheel out engine.

You're braver than me getting under that. If it works though like you say it will be much easier to get access. You had a good buy there. How many more will be following?

Man up, all of you. It only looks scary when you're doing the initial lift/tilt.

Be careful, the one in the link will be too wide, you need to go for the adjustable width version or cut and weld the non adjustable one to the correct width. I believe this is what Darcini did The one I have is the same as CJAutos supply for £540, this one came from their supplier http://www.uni-max.co.uk/ (although they dont appear to list them anymore) who had provided 3 to a company for evaluation and demo purposes. They were advertised on eBay at £350 or offers a few weeks ago & I managed to get the last one with an offer of £250. There are some new ones on eBay at ridiculous prices As for getting under the car, I don't see what the problem is. It is held in place once raised by larger pins than are used for axle stands, so if you're happy to get under the car when it is on axle stands then what's the problem. For additional security I also use extra supports.

The description says it adjusts to 3 widths Description Mobile lift, 1500 kg payload, 3-way adjustable in width (1500, 1650, 1800 mm) Suitable for vehicles with a width of: 1400 to 1850 mm None of those appropriate for our cars?

Yes, should work. The pads/supports should also slide sideways a little to allow for small adjustments. This is the one I have (without their branding) http://www.cjautos.e...duct_p/cl01.htm
