You would struggle to spend £100K building a VX however a 500BHP engine in one would cost a fair few pretty pennies. Probably 20%+ of that budget.

Dunno Joe, there would be the best part of £10k in a Harrop'd engine bay once you take into account the exhaust, block, pistons, modified head, valves, manifold, rods, gearbox etc... 500 BHP would need a pretty bombproof set up. Could it be done on a standard block with only a turbo charger?

Proper race spec engine, with proper engine management software, properly calibrated could easily set you back £50k inc. fabrication of mountings and subframe adjustments. Can't imagine Crabash's VXT Heart transplant cost less than £10k and that is running circa 300bhp?

The Americans seem to get turbo'd lsj going pretty quick for not a great deal of money. But then probably easier and quicker to do a vxt running 500, fully forged with a big turbo But I agree depends what the word 'race' means and how bomb proof you want everything Does anyone know the plans other than the budget? Or is it 007?

That's my point, even throwing £40k at the engine...which = serious racing stuff like a Swindon BTCC redtop or whatever, £60k+ is still hard to spend, and even then, what do you get winning TA? Kudos? BTCC budgets there.

- 5k base car

- 5k engine

- 6k Engine aux comp (lines, pumps, exhausts, intake, turbos etc)

- 2-3k custom dry sump system

- 2k standalone ecu

- 1.5k - dash with data logging

- 15-20k sequential gearbox

- 6-8k chassis (gt hubs etc but still with 2 way not 4 way dampers)

- 2.5k Wheels/tyres brakes

- 2k aero - (wing that works, sealed floor, splitter etc)

- 1k - fitted cage

- 2k - seat, wheels, harnesses

58k at a quick count up. And you never plan for everything, slicks, resprays etc. If you picked the best of everything I think 100k is do-able on a build. Look at Jamie Wilsons Exige.

I know roughly what the cost for a Vorsprung durch technik transplant is, and certainly you're not far off the mark.

So at a rough £58k, with some smart buying and realistic not replacing stuff just because it isn't shiny...you could build 2 epic VXs :P

I don't think Mr Crabash will mind me commenting that his engine pulls well north of 300bhp. I've had a taste.

I'm worried about being able to afford one epic VX, never mind two...

And if it's not shiny (not bling, just new or shiny like new) then it needs replaced or repainted. Dem's the rules.

380something bhp and 403ft lb torque from memory on hub dyno qith nice wide powerband Head bolt upgrade and bigger blower needed for 600bhp seems to have been done a few times. Mid 400's few options but really not needed in the vx.....its plenty fast enough ;) DG

I would not bother with a seq gb , seems a lot of race regs don't allow them. No mention of cooling in that list though, I think you would want to repackage a lot of the original design, and double up, 4 rads.
