I agree with Joe, harnesses without cut outs are just dangerous. It allows the harnesses to slip off the shoulders in the event of a smash and I doubt that guys harness was too tightly fitted.

Having said that, being thrown clear may well have saved his life.

only if the harnesses are not bolt on type, well.. the issue is much much less.

Absolutely horrible to see that. Hope both pull through ok. Wet road, on a fast looking corner, with an approach lane joining. Who knows but maybe all contributing factors.

Ive attended several nasty accidents in my line of work but that is really nasty. I was trying to work out what could have happened by the photos, but not easy to see by the final places of the cars

Hope all drivers recover well

Joe

Horrible, horrible pictures.  No idea how they survived.

I echo the comments about harnesses, wouldn't even consider wrap around harnesses in mine without cutouts.

Well, they aren't wrap round harnesses - the bar has eye bolts. I also notice that the standard 3 point belts have been removed... maybe the driver couldn't be bothered putting the harness on for a trip down the shops which is why they are clipped together and why he was ejected from the car...?

i recon in 5 th picture the vx was coming out where the green skoda is in picture and wasn't looking and seat hits the vx maybe.

think may well be vx pulling out, another car pulling out where seat is sitting so seat pull across lane to let car filter into lane

and vx gets hit.

From article translation i get that the speedster wanted to take the exit of the 2 lane street, and the seat was going straight ahead.

The speedster got on the seat lane according to police.

So either missed it completely, or made a misjudgement.

Maybe one of the german forum members can translate it 100% correct, as i used google translate.

Most likely been thrown out as they are not cut in the seats and the driver has slipped out of the seat. Or they could have been simply click back together by a people at the scene after the crash Personally would only wear a harness that is cut into the seats with slots after seeing that crash

You tried driving with a harness clip behind you?  I've sat on it a few times and I can't see many people doing that.  I agree they are bolted in, but also that in those pictures they are spread wide...

I've sat on mine for a second too and it's something u wouldn't drive round with as it's heavy and would dig in your back. Translation reads head on crash Appears to have slid out the seat as the harness are not cut into the seat and wide apart

Really terrible pictures.

I don't know if most here use google translator... but they wrote in the articles that the speedster driver came onto the oncoming lane for unknown reasons (probably fell asleep or lost control IMO) and hit the seat.

In my opinion it would be nice to not discuss the possible details here, as we can't know anyway, and it would be respectful to the injured. The pictures truly look horrific...
