The weight is over the front wheels for a reason

To say that is to suggest that a car needs to be heavier to handle better, not so. If the issue is balance - then the weight balance on a standard turbo VX is much worse than where any of my suggestions would take an NA. The VX also throws two major Lotus fundamental principles in the bin by having absurdly heavy wheels for no good reason other than styling.

Of course it doent suggest it needs to be heavier to handle better. You make it up as you go along. It suggests you need weight in certain places irrelevant of the total weight.

My vx spends quite a lot of time in Spain and if I thought that this mod was going to come in at a reasonable price I'd go for it but it's probably not financially viable.

Also the added weight and drain on BHP would mean taking the supercharger from stage 2 to stage 3!   ;)

Having dropped the engine in with the AC compressor fitted it would appear that nothing is a real issue that end. The owner is considering supercharging, and it is very evident that there are a lot more changes to do to run aircon with the supercharger too - all perfectly achievable but would require a lot of effort to try to do on a budget!

I need to firm up the cost of a rad/chargecooler/A/C stack next, then I think i need a Europa that went terminally out through the hedge backwards!

I would look out for a crashed Lotus with aircon, but otherwise these lads might have something suitable that fits in the space (relocate battery):

S2 Lotus heater-A/C units will also mean relocation of the battery as it takes up all the space in he front compartiment.

Oh.. And that also uses electrically operated air flaps for temperature, recic mode and the like, so some way of operating/driving that would also need to be (retro)fitted.

I'd personally keep it simple and keep the normal heater 'as is' and fit a dedicated A/C unit like the Middle-east Elises behind the seats. That also allows to feed the cold air as directly as possible to the passengers/seats and not have to diffuse the air through the normal vents.

Sure, it's not an all-in-1 solution and you lose some space, but it will keep the passengers definitely a lot cooler in the cabin than the normal A/C units fitted in the front as they suffer from the heat soak and lack of airflow in and around the dash area.

Bye, Arno.
