Reviving a vote that last took place in 2005

So, I'm weighing up the pro's and con's of whether to get trackday insurance. Having had a good read of this forum and PistonHeads on the subject people sit on both sides of the fence. I'm pretty sure I know what I'm going to do but interested to see the view of .org.

So, where do you sit on this subject; do you insure your car for trackdays?

I had track insurance through CCI when I wrote my car off at Oulton Park. Very, very glad I had it.

Most of the 'specialist' insurers such as CCI, Henderson Taylor, etc included track day insurance within the policy for a given number of track days a year.  These companies are usually the cheapest to choose anyway so make it a no brainer to choose one of these if you intend to track the car, rather than having to source additional track day cover.

Personally, I would always have cover, as much as anything to protect myself from everyone else out there!

Not a very good poll...I can't really answer any of those questions.

I never used to insure. Now I have a policy that covers me for most UK trackdays and if I can get a good deal through my insurer for Euro trackdays I will. However I m not against tracking with out insurance if I have to. I would never pay £100 for a days insurance for example I'd rather risk it. After all I have been tracking for 11 years (probably 50 plus track days) and never needed to claim.

Hmmm... I may cancel my policy and go with one of the insurers mentioned in other threads that come with trackday cover.

You can get just as good policies including trackday cover as without, especially if you are willing to limit your miles.

mine with classic line includes most UK trackdays and was only £300 ish last year and thats with lots of mods/300bhp.

I am old and very long no claims though.

I've always had trackday insurance sometimes it's been included with the insurance other times it hasn't but I was very glad I had it when I crashed the RX8 at Brands. It was with REIS and they were great and paid out less the excess of 10% and because some of the aftermarket parts would have had to been imported from Japan they agreed to pay out a cash settlement on the bases of the quotes I had for the repairs. In the end I haven't repaired the car and used the money to go towards the VX and still haven't decided wether to repair the car or break it for parts.

IMO you are nuts if you track and don't insure.

It just isn't worth the risk. I insure with CCI and get their inclusive free 5/6 trackdays per year.

I look at it this way: whats the difference between my premium and the absolute cheapest bargain basement premium I could get, which wouldn't cover for any trackdays. Probably £100 a year, something like that ?

Its worth £100 a year for complete peace of mind.

Its all very well saying 'I've never had an accident'...until you have an accident!

It doesn't take much to write off a clam...a bit of over exhuberant driving or some old banger ahead dumping fluids on a bend.

How many of us have -never- had a spin ? Not even MartinS can say that any more!

If you're spinning you're out of control and whether you have an expensive accident or not is to a degree in the lap of the gods.

I insure sometimes, when I remember to inform the insurance company (CCI through Henderson Taylor). Never bothered with insurance at Silverstone, Snetterton, Bedford, Anglesey and lots of the French tracks. Always insure at Cadwell and Oulton and certainly will for Spa.

I insured once

fell off at cadwell

£800 damage which is what I would have paid in excess

Now i don't insure it but i do take another car to drive if I crash mine !!!

if it comes with a policy and the excess isn't too high then it's probably worth having just for peace of mind

Never used to, but now I do I feel much more comfortable on track.

Nightmare situation at Snett, come round the final set of corners to find 3 cars stationary on the track, lucky to avoid but sh*t happens.

Worth being insured IMO
