Ok,

So it's time to renew the VX policy and I'm in a little of a conundrum.

Currently the car is with CCI, on laid up cover. The premium price for this has increased (before I told them of propsed market value increase and modifcations spec that is forthcoming) to £242.

I have also listed the new proposed specification, and power level estimates, and the cost for fully comp for the year is £648 based on 4,000 miles social domestic and pleasure with usual trackday cover etc. They will reduce this to £600 if I take comprehensive out now, but if I start with laid up and change to fully comp the discount can not be applied, and after 30 days the fully comp rate needs recalculated so isn't guaranteed at £648, though they would calculate the premium difference on a pro-rata difference. However they will not offer an agreed value, as the policy is through Aviva, and I can only suggest a market value, which I have pegged at £20,000 as I suspect in terms of 'market value' even this car will struggle to be proved to be worth more than that.

The other option is Classicline

Laid up cover is just £152 for the year, and fully comp would be £585 based on 3,000 miles a year (1,000 less than CCI) or £748 on 5,000 mile limit (1,000 more than CCI). They don't operate on pro-rata basis, so no matter when I put the car back on the road I would pay the £585 minus the £152 (or £748 minus £152) I had initially paid - that figure is however guaranteed and won't change.

Track days are unlimited, as long as organised by a proper TDO or car club basically. The policy is a classic policy so they don't need me to use any NCB on this car, so that means I could use it on the Saab or whatever, which might be handy. They will also offer an agreed value, and after suggesting I would peg the car at around £25,000 (no guffawing at the back... this isn't market value, but a figure I would need to recreate the car) they said they'd need an independent valuation, which shouldn't be too much of a problem. Think there's some handy breakdown cover and few other things thrown in, and the excess for the road is just £250 rather than CCI's £400.

I'm leaning towards Classicline to be honest, as I know what it will cost me whereas CCI could change price before I take it off laid up cover and of course £152 instead of £240 in January, when I also have to pay a tax bill and two other lots of car insurance, will be easier to absorb also. But does anyone have any experience of Classic line, in terms of customer service or claiming etc - or even just some general thoughts on the above.

Not interested in someone saying they think it's expensive (unless they can offer a cheaper price lol) as I actually think the figures are reasonable for a car that will be so highly modified and expected to have around 330-350bhp...

Cheers,

G

I've been with ClassicLine now for three years and their customer service is excellent (although I've not had to claim).  My current premium on a standard(ish) VXT, with cosmetic mods declared, 5000 miles on SDP, garaged, is about £270.  One of the advantages is that full UK and European Breakdown cover, including at home and onward travel, is included in the premium.

Been with classic line 2 years and will probably be using them again unless insurance goes up dramatically, Track cover is simple steps Not had to claim and I hope I never will When I set my agreed valuation I had to pay £20 for the independent value person and I had to list everything and take pics But was agreed after that

Classic line are good, Never claimed but they always give a competitive price and customer service is spot on. But don't forget that they do not include european track days...there is an extra fee for these.

Classicline were a shower of sh!t when I tried to get a quote out of them a few years back and my life is too short to deal with idiots like that. CCI via Henderson Taylor all the way from me (now REIS won't cover us) but have no idea about the claims experience as I've never claimed from any kind of insurance in my life.

They used to cover europe but stopped a year or so ago. I did negotiate a price for all my euro trips last year and will do so again this year when I renew.

Always answer the phone quickly and deal with my requests speedily and professionally. Never had any issues.

Thanks for the feedback guys, sounds like classic line might get my business. Lower excess, unlimited trackdays, agreed value etc. Paul, do you remember roughly how much it cost you to add the euro track day cover? Just a rough idea.

My claim for the VXR was with Classic Lines and was dealt with very very well and fast, I had the money in the bank before my head stopped hurting  they dealt with all the council stuff as well with just an odd email and a letter for me to deal with over the whole thing. That's what you want from an insurance company

I got them to add four euro trackdays for £200. I am not sure what the reduction was but £50 a day seemed a good deal to me. I already had those booked when I was renewing so negotiated that as part of the deal. Otherwise you would just ring up and get a quote for each european track day as it comes along.
