Because it's transparent.

I don't fully understand, why is an "open to offers" or OIRO type add not acceptable?
Good question Nev. Just waiting for a good response.

ok don't add a price and reply to the stupid amounts of messages you get for silly offers. If you have a price and then ono it gives people a starting place as to what you are willing to accept.

If a shitty XR3i from the 80's can go for £40k.....

When did this happen then?

Silverstone Auctions, 2015. 6k miles only.  It was an RS Turbo though as opposed to the boggie XR3(i).  Actual price sought at the end was £60k I believe.

Crikey me there's a lot of talk about prices but you can't argue with an auction result

Like a lot of main stream cars from the past 30 years there is usually just a load of shite about. However I can see how a mint white and blue cracking good RS Turbo S1 would be attractive. An almost 40 year old Capri RS3200 - yes please. A flat nose RS2000 with fishnets from 1980 in red with chocolate - yes please. How about a mint 1986/7 Pug 205 1.9 GTI or a Renault 5 Turbo of same age.... All great fun and not the lardy, over stuffed, electronically advanced and anesthetized shite of todays equivalents that are not from Hethel, an MX5 or similar. Horses for courses I guess and probably why I love my VX. It's an age thing....

after 25 years will the VX220 or Speedsters be allowed to be imported to the USA? would that mean a big boost to the prices come 2026?

I'm only 30 years old and love old cars, it's not only an age thing. But I have to say I'm not attracted to 205 gti, capri etc, not my cup of tea, I think the 70s and 80s look weird. 30s, 50s and 60s had the best looking cars. The 90s had some good cars also.

There's a very expensive Black Turbo for sale on Auto Trader, only 406 miles, the asking price is £32,995 Wow.

Series 1 Escort RS turbo with 5,500 miles, I remember that one. All RS variants are increasing in value every year especially if it has a cosworth badge...minus the scorpio!

There is a lot of shite about and still strong money, especially sapphire cossies.  I remember about 5-10 years ago some examples selling for around the £4k-5k mark..the dogs you wouldnt touch. These are now £13k plus, hardly suprising when mint sapphires are £25k+ and escort cossies £35k+. Even a good YB engine will cost you circa £5k.

The appreciation in value has been astronomic over the last 3-4 years.

I guess this is due to a few reasons, people who couldn't afford them when (or afford to insure them) in their 20's, now having the disposable income to buy (and being of an insurance friendly age), long-standing low interest rates so modern classics getting a better return than bank accounts, people seeing classics cars as a usable pension, and an increasing demand pushing prices up.

Hey Gaffer, youre a young pup, but if youd ever owned a 205gti.....youd want one again. Sadly the back end bit me and I ended up bending it to its grave (at only about 30mph) but would love another. Big nostalgia money now.....maybe I can buy an tough burner on eBay?

Trouble is, I'm old enough to remember the 205 but not old enough to have driven one. It's the styling that I've never been a fan of. It was a Nissan Skyline GTR33, F40, Mitsubishi 3000GT, Lancer Evo 6 tommi and original impreza with the blue and yellow livery I had on my walls. Although, I lusted for those cars then I have no interest now!? I would currently love a go in the new ls3 V8 flyin miata over most things.

I'm 30, I could have had a Morris Minor ;) but I would say they've never appealed to me either which is more to do with it.

Im in my 30s and my first car was a 1986 mini. It was terrible by any modern standard but I loved it. Would love a 1960s cooper with external hinges... Gaffer, I can partly understand your point of view. Despite growing up around cars in the 80s and 90s I have very little interest in a lot of the European metal from that era (xr3i, Sierra cosworth, e30 M3, golf gti, Quattro etc) BUT the 205 and 306 gti both do it for me. Tempted to pick up a 306 before the prices go nuts... Strangely, theres lots of Jap cars from that era that appeal massively! RX7, NSX, integra etc.
