Two full length strips of bog standard sticky back Velcro works for me. Only time it comes off is when I catch it with my foot walking past, but I've just shortened it to stop that.

That's a bit drastic. Did you just remove the toes?

Funny you should say that; about a week after the incident that sparked all that off I went through French customs in Calais having taken the trouble to glue the little white screw cover things on my number plate, and as I approached, four French cops hanging around talking suddenly stopped and turned and had their eyes absolutely fixed on it.  As soon as they saw, or thought they saw it was screwed on they lost interest and turned away.  I got such a childish kick out of putting one over on them.  Then when I looked around in France there were cars everywhere with their number plates stuck on with double sided tape.

and if you take it to France, stick on some screw heads on the plate so you dont get a smacked wrist

Kinky ;) a fifty shades thing if I ever saw one  Have you ever done the human fly thingy where you fling yourself at a wall of Velcro? Same thing I guess.

I do trim work and retrimmed a Corvette Stingray a few years back. The interior door panels are held on with Industrial Velcro

amazing stuff. Must be a GM thing. So I guess thumbs up for Velcro!

The question should have been does anyone not use Velcro  2 inch wide heavy duty as said.

mine is held on with the double sided spongy stuff, but slightly heavier duty than before, learnt that by the third plate :\

Yep velcro is the stuff, bent the ends of my plate in with a hot air gun to avoid the trip up as you walk past bit as well:-)

Velcro here too, added advantage that if you do catch it it just pops off and you can pick it up and re attach it no harm done. I live down a glorified farm track and have got home several times to find my number plate on the path!

Thanks, everyone.

It didn't occur to me I could get in trouble for it. Just thought it would be easier to stick it back on when a speed bump takes it off! And less ugly than drilling holes…

I like the idea of heating it and bending it back too. Hopefully no issues with cameras reading the plate.

I used to park in a permit car park where the barrier read your numberplate to let you in.  I had no issue with a 1/2 size plate on the ANPR so I doubt a slightly bent one would be a problem thumbsup
