Hello Phil,

Do you still have some spanner available ?

I would be more than happy to get one of those to disassemble this bloody oil filter cap..

Can you ship it in France ?

Let me know the price as well as shipping fees.

BeeDee

The cap is removed with either a 32mm shallow socket or a 1/2 inch socket extension, it screws down into the adaptor tube.  The adaptor tube locks the sandwich plate in place and it is this which requires Chippy's special internally toothed ring spanner to remove it from the block, or to separate it from the cap if the two have come out together when undoing the cap.  The cap seals to the adaptor tube with an O ring.  The sandwich plate has two seals, the upper between the collar of the adaptor tube and the sandwich plate and the lower between the sandwich plate and the rim of the filter pocket.  These gaskets were originally very thin metal items, no longer available from VML, but graphite replacements are available from Mat Jackson.  The tube tightens to 120Nm and the cap to 25Nm.  Hope that helps!

Oh damn! I'm pretty sure the garage that replaced the cap tightened it to 120 nm. I knew that sounded too tight. Can I have one of these tools please to help me undo it?

Also please address it to Richard Fanders as I've given you my parents address and they may wonder why someone has posted them a lump of metal.
