Hello Everyone. I have searched but I have still got no idea who I should enquire with... Basically I will be picking up my new Vx in a week or so, so I am looking to get my insurance sorted out now. Like the GT Turbo that I had before, I will probably only do about 3k miles a year, no track days planned. My GT came under classic insurance and as such it only cost me £120 for the year with all mods declared. It was running 180bhp and had an agreed valve put onto it. This was with Adrian Flux who I am not too keen on to be honest! I will not be able to use my NCD as I already have insurance on my daily. Could anyone please recommend anyone who would be good to use for how I will be using the Vx? Kind Regards, Rob

I forgot to add that it's for a Vx220 Turbo with a stage one remap and a lilinri (unsure of spelling) back box.

CCI, classic line or admiral would be a good start

Just tried admiral and even with my NCD they wanted £480! I have not paid that in insurance for anything in over 10 years!

You'll do well to get cheaper. It's a lot to do with location as I've found out to my cost.

Mine came in at 280ish this year, for some reason 4000 miles a year was cheaper than 1000 miles!

That was with Mark Richard.

I have got it down to £360 with Adrian Flux and that's without using any NCD due to it being a second car... 3k miles. I will try Mark Richard tomorrow.

I paid £250 last March with Adrian Flux. The vx n/a is my second vehicle so started with zero no claims bonus and last year the price was based on 2yrs NCB (bought the vx in March 2012). I used Flux's classic car insurance limiting me to 5000 miles per year. They wouldn't quote on any lesser mileage. For this year year ,  I have been on Go Compare site and because I have taken early retirement and have listed that under 'occupation ' my quote came in at £170. My retirement also lowered my main vehicle by £100 when the insurance was due in Jan '15. It may be a Vauxhall Corsa but it dropped from £215 in 2014 to £115 in 2015. All this because I have retired early. Some Insurances (not all , but Flux does) take into account driving qualifications obtained. I do not track the car and only mods are a K & N Induction system and uprated brake pads, brake hoses and heater pipe into the cabin. Insurance company is aware of these upgrades but cost me no extra as they state they do not alter the handling/performance of the car

Hi Rob,

Obviously depends on circumstances, location and excess,  but if you don't want track days, no mods etc, you could get close to that with mainstream insurers.  I put my details in Confused.com, as a starting point, and it came back for the n/a with quotes between £133 and £1035

Should I ask flux for a classic policy then? For some reason I did not think that the Vx qualified yet... I have tried go compare but they are coming back around the £450 for the Vx Turbo.. My Kuga costs me and the wife £180 and the Mini Diesel is around the same. I live in a good area insurance wise.

I tend to do a compare the market search to get an idea then shop round a few specialist and use them as a base mark with the expectation to beat them prices with mods as specialist companies dont always spank u of mods

Ref the Classic car insurance.....it was their staff that suggested it because of the lack of miles I would be doing (have only done 2000 miles in three yrs ) and it was a way of getting a lower quote. You won't loose anything by asking. They also give you reduction for being a member of any motoring clubs. I am a member of this vx220 club (obviously) and the Astra owners club (used to have a Mk 4 GSI Astra).

Shop about Rob, maybe try a few unique independents like Michael Page. In my first year with the vx I managed to get them to match my ncd on my main car, which dropped the price to around 250 quid. Still more expensive than my Insignia shed, but cheapest I could find. It's really worth haggling and making some calls rather than just using Internet comparison sites, email and such thumbsup

I was shocked by the quotes I got for insuring a VX220 this week. I am already with Adrian Flux for my 3 wheeler and a 4 wheeler Grinnall Scorpions and they have always been about £200 per year with unlimited mileage. I rang to swap the Scorpion 4 off and the VX220 on to my current policy and they wanted an extra £130 for the 2 months remaining on the policy.

They then quoted me for a fresh policy with a different company and that was £560!!

I asked why they were charging me more for a cheaper, less powerful car and they could not answer me so I shopped around.

Backford Bloor who are very cheap for kit cars quoted £900 for the VX! Eventually I found Chris Knott insurance a small one office set up and I got it for just over £300 as a third car. They 'mirrored' the no claims on my every day car which brought the price right down. Very friendly service. Discount for owners club members.

Most of the people I know are now moving away from Adrian Flux as they seem to be getting very greedy. However the premium for my last car was VERY cheap considering value, rarity and power so I should not complain.

Where on earth do they get their prices from? It really is a lucky dip but I think getting them to consider your no claims on another car is the key.

Then I went to tax the car and I got another shock!!
